Increasing Quality in Education within an International Framework
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

In a context characterized by the economic precariousness and the obstacle in the process of European construction, our project seeks to take advantage of the opportunities this situation offers to promote the entrepreneurship and the training in foreign languages of our students to gain benefit from the European diversity, not only from the economic point of view -with different growth rates and bigger labor markets, but also from the social and cultural point of view. Our school, "Nosa Señora dos Ollos Grandes", has a longstanding international profile characterized by the promotion of multilingualism based on CLIL an ICT methodologies: since 2000 we have coordinated Comenius projects with Sweden, France, Germany, Italy, Finland, United Kingdom, Italy and Romania; we have established strategic alliances with Sweden, France and Germany for short term students exchanges; we have made an extensive use of IT support platforms like eTwinning; and have taken part since its inception in the Comenius Individual Pupil Mobility action for long-term mobility of students. Moreover, we have not neglected the professional development of our teachers who have taken a leading role in European programmes and have participated in Study Visits and EU-funded courses. Quality, the dissemination of results and sustainability have been given priority in all our actions, and our school has been invited to take part in European programmes sessions as examples of good practice by the Spanish National Agency (OAPEE) and the agencies for educational innovation (CAFI) and European programmes of the Government of Galicia (Spain). The general objectives of our European Development Plan (EDP) have to be seen within this context: investing in human capital. Our Programme aims at contributing to the international dimension of education, the promotion of European values, with a project that is addressed to the training of part of the professorship characterized by their interest in being active part of this process , ready to innovate adopting new teaching methodologies and willing to incorporate ICT tools in their everyday practice. We will select four teachers who will participate in structured courses organized by well-established institutions providing teacher training in Ireland, Germany and Island. Three of the courses will focus on language and cultural skills in the learning and teaching of a foreign language. One will teach new methodologies to promote entrepreneurship among teenagers. Our teachers have full operational capacity to implement the project, and their performance has been demonstrated in managing previous European Programmes. They hold MA or PhD degrees and most of them are independent or proficient users of English, German, French and / or Portuguese (levels B2 to C2). Two more teachers will take part in an experience exchange activity in Italy related to CLIL, entrepreneurship and international projects management. Across the whole project the idea of establishing new professional bows with centers from all over Europe is present: It's very clear in the case of the exchange of educational experiences with the Italian and Turkish centers, "G.Galilei" and Turk "Cumhuriyet"; more vague and diffuse when considering the training activities, where it will depend upon the options each case may offer. The project has been developed collaboratively among the school management and other members of the educational community, with a special role from some teachers specially overturned in this type of initiatives. The outcome tries to promote the international dimension of education in different but complementary ways: CLIL, entrepreneurship, learning of languages, a thicker net of professional contacts, employment of ITC tools. And with one final objective: to increase the quality of the education for the new generations helping them to development the needed 21st century competences. In the short term we expect to extend our network of contacts abroad to develop to new and lasting educational collaborative projects; and to achieve a better knowledge of foreign languages from our professorship. In the medium term we expect improvements in the quality of education due to the new learned methodologies: teaching of foreign language, entrepreneurship, CLIL and use of new ICT tools in the classroom. In the long term, we mean to educate a more dynamic, conscious, responsible and democratic European, citizenship, qualified to assume the new challenges of the 21st century.
