InContext:The systemic approach to working with youths with disabilities and their families.
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Nov 30, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

This 7- day Training Course which will be held between the 4 - 10 July 2014 (including arrival and departure) targets youth workers/leaders who work with persons with disabilities and/or their families. 8 partners coming from Malta, Latvia, Romania, Turkey, Austria, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Bulgaria are involved in this training course and will be sending 3 participants each. The training course will be spread on two levels. In the initial phase, the emphasis will be placed on the person-hood of the youth worker/youth leader. Once the base has been set we will then move to the second phase of the training course in which focus will be laid on the professional aspect of the youth worker/youth leader working with young people with disability and/or their families/guardians/carers. ‘InContext’ as the same name implies will develop ways how to get familiar with the context in which disability has developed and using theoretical approaches through non-formal methods will help to develop a strategy to aid the young people with disability and their families/guardians/carers. This training course aims also at equipping the youth worker/youth leader with experiential methods which in turn they can then use with the young people they work with as well as with their families. The training course will tackle the following issues; • Shift from linear to systemic thinking • Setting the context (who am I, where do I come from, family genograms and ecomaps) • Language and meaning • Using reflecting themes • Internalized others’ interview • Therapeutic use of self • Reflexivity • Questioning Techniques These issues and techniques will be delivered through non-formal methods of education such as role plays including role reversal, easy-to-read material, discussions and hands-on workshops. Parts of the sessions/workshops will also be recorded so that using the same videos the participants will be able to assess the ways and techniques they are making use of. This will not only enhance the learning experience of the youth worker/youth leader but it will also give them the possibility of using these techniques with the young people with disability they work with and their families. Furthermore, a collaborative approach will be used throughout the training course from the initial phase of engagement till the end phase of evaluation and feedback.
