Inclusion & Gender Equality Through Softball (IGETS)
Start date: Jan 1, 2017, End date: Dec 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our small collaborative partnership shall be a 24 month project implemented by three softball clubs:Lead applicant-Ghajnsielem Redcoats (Malta)Partners-Softball Klub Princ Zagreb (Croatia)-Honk- en Softbalvereniging Olympia Haarlem (Netherlands)We feel as organisations active within the field of sport and which work with both male and female players, that women and girls are not engaging as actively in sport as their male counterparts. We feel this is due to negative gender stereotypes in mainstream media which have come to be accepted and normalised in society. These include the portrayal of sport as 'unfeminine'; women to be inferior to men in terms of sporting ability and highly restrictive gender roles.Sport in general and softball more specifically are excellent means through which to promote gender equality and counteracting negative perceptions of females in sport. Softball can be played as a mixed sport (by both men and women together) as well as by people with different physical attributes (tall or short, lean or muscled). Our project objectives are:- Exchange of best practices in the areas relevant to our project (gender equality in sport, encouraging youths to practice softball and sport in general, increased competence in our activities as sports organisations)- Promotion of gender equality in sport and higher participation rates in sport, especially for women and girls, by working with key stakeholders- Capacity-building of our organisations and staff- Creating a lasting network of cooperation among us as project partnersWe shall be having 4 transnational activities including a final conference among all project partners, aside from activities implemented by each partner in their own country. Our project has received the support of the European Softball Federation, expressed in a letter of support which can be presented upon request.
