In Service Training Adult Education Tutors
Start date: Dec 31, 2014, End date: Dec 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Context/background of project : The organisation would like to develop and enhance staff competences in the areas of teaching and the use of new technologies and tools and also in the organisation of teaching and learning. We wish to encourage the best use of teaching and learning techniques based on ICT (information and communication technologies). We wish to create the conditions which adequately support teachers and trainers as they tackle the challenges of the knowledge society, from the point of view of lifelong learning; Expansion of mobility for learners, teachers and teacher trainers for periods of learning abroad whilst applying the principles laid down in the Europe 2020 Strategy. There is an added value of participation in such training activities in an international and intercultural dimension rather than in Ireland. The benefits of networking and information sharing would be immense and allows participants to develop intercultural skills such as team-working and cooperating in a multinational environment. Course providers are multinational and have experience in more than one European country thus widening the learning opportunities. Objectives of our project: The learning outcomes envisaged by participation in these training courses will be in the area of ICT for teaching and learning, new teaching methodologies, Intercultural/inter-generational education and lifelong learning. ICT is an integral part of any organisation's activity and has been a recurring theme and concern in the reform programme of our education service. We have moved from a time when adult learners had poor access to the Internet and few learning opportunities available to them if they did have access. Now, it is hard to think of any adult in Ireland who could not significantly benefit from using technology. But rather than conceiving of 'technology' as a separate skill or subject, Kerry ETB seeks to further integrate technology into the delivery of learning and accreditation across different subject areas including numeracy. Kerry ETB seeks to further integrate technology into the delivery of learning and accreditation across different subject areas including numeracy. Number and profile of participants: Participants have not been identified but will be selected from Adult Literacy and Community Education staff using a fair and transparent process and criteria determined by the Erasmus+ committee. Individuals will be selected by need and appropriateness for the role. The committee will maintain written records of the selection process in case of possible internal complaints. At this point we would envisage that the participant criteria would include, motivation, clear goals for the mobility and willingness to share the experience and learning outcomes on their return. Description of activities: As part of a Continuous Professional Development plan, Kerry ETB have identified the the key areas of needs as ICT, new teaching methodologies, intercultural/inter-generational education and lifelong learning. A short description of the results and impact envisaged and finally the potential longer term benefits: Kerry ETB seeks to engage, empower and educate adults. Lifelong learning is a process for all. By engaging in these training courses, participants can acquire new skills and network with other professionals to create a community of knowledge that is shared and available to all. By engaging in Continuous Professional Development participants ensure continuity for themselves in the lifelong learning process along with meeting objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy of mobility, quality and efficiency, equity, social cohesion and active citizenship, as well as creativity and innovation. The desired impact of this project at local, regional, national and European levels is : -to improve the teaching and learning experiences for all and thus creating environments that are conducive to learning -to make adult education more attractive, more accessible and more effective. -to target those groups of people in the community who are most at risk of being marginalised in the current unstable labour market. - to enhance the personal and professional skills and competences of adult learners -to engage with new and innovative processes so that the adult learner can benefit from innovative methodologies -to provide the participants with new and creative ideas to enhance their learners' learning experience and help and support them on their learning journey -to take part in such a training in an international and intercultural dimension rather than in Ireland -participants will be given the opportunity to develop intercultural skills such as team-working and cooperating in a multi-national environment and the promotion of European citizenship and social cohesion.
