Improving teaching and learning using ICT
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: Jul 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The overall aim of the project is to upgrade the quality of teaching and improve learning outcomes through the modernization of teaching practices and the use of ICT, as well as school's internationalization and networking with schools and teachers from other countries. The objectives of the EDP are:a) the training of teachers in teaching methodology and ICT pedagogical use that could enhance the quality of the provided teaching and learning in all subjects.b) the internationalization of the school unit and its openness to partnerships with other schools and institutions at local and European level, through ICT and the use of English. The participants are thirteen teachers and the headteacher of the school. Teachers' service is from 10 to 25 years in post. Five teachers possess additional postgraduate qualifications, while all of them pursue their continuous training by participating in various courses in Cyprus and abroad. The programme will be implemented through three training activities. The first one is organized by the Aegean University and aims to support teaching and improve learning through ICT and the use of a foreign language and the cultural environment. The second activity is organized by the InternationalSkole organization and focuses on the use of interactive ICT tools, which can be used in the teaching and learning process, to contribute to intercultural communication and cooperation. The third one is organized by the Czech Institute of Academic Education and the Czech Technical University in Prague and aims to share best practices implemented worldwide regarding ICT integration in teaching, learning and continuous professional development. The programme will be implemented based on a plan that includes the following steps:-contact with the host institution for an agreement that includes details of mobility-call for interest from teachers and selection of participants- settlement of practical issues for mobility (e.g. security, accommodation, travel)- monitoring mobilities- dissemination of results and sharing material, knowledge and practices resulting from the mobility- using participants as 'specialists' for promoting CPD in school- final evaluation of implementation of the European Development Plan in relation to the training mobilitiesThe programme is expected to help in achieving the objectives set in EDP. The planned training activities will improve basic knowledge and skills of teachers and give practical ideas regarding the integration of ICT in teaching and learning, as well as ICT use for cooperation and the development of intercultural skills and attitudes. It is also expected that teachers will have the opportunity to improve their teaching practice by enriching their repertoire with new ideas and techniques, they will gain confidence in trying new teaching techniques, and ultimately, positive attitudes towards ICT and the use of innovative practices in teaching and learning. It is expected that the programme will have a similar impact on all school teachers with whom participants will share their gained experiences, knowledge and skills, by acting as multipliers to promote change around the school. At the same time, all training activities provide opportunities for networking among teachers, allowing for the development of partnerships between schools or at classroom level, with other European schools, contributing thereby to the internationalization of our school unit. Finally, the training mobilities are expected to help create a supportive environment for effective learning for children and life-long learning for teachers.
