Start date: Nov 30, 2013, End date: Apr 29, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

PROBLEM: Every month about 7000 passengers are going to both directions Belarus and Lithuania. Traveling time from Vilnius to Minsk (or vice versa) by train is 4 to 5 hours. This is caused by inconvenient and long lasting customs control procedures. To overcome this lack of competitiveness there is a need for improvement, interoperability and integration of transport systems of both Lithuania and Belarus.OBJECTIVE: to improve the travelling conditions on railway links between Lithuania and Belarus by reducing travelling time of the train Vilnius-Minsk to 2.5 hours. Achievements: The project contributed to reduction of travelling time of the train Vilnius – Minsk to two and half hours. The safety and accessibility of the Vilnius railway station was improved by replacing elevators and renovating the stairs at the main entrance. Modern means of secure communication and positioning were installed in 34 belarusian locomotives, they were made compatible with European standards. The possibility to travel faster by train Vilnius-Minsk was advertised in the media.
