Improvement of accessibility of the state border between the Republic of Lithuania and the Russian Federation by increasing throughput capacity of border control points (BCP) Panemune and Kybartai (ILPR.01.02.00-72-174/10-00)

The overall objective of the project is to speed up the customs control procedures making faster the passenger and cargo transit through the Panemunė-Sovetsk and Kybartai-Černyševskoe border crossing points. It will be achieved through improvement of vehicle traffic management and increasing of efficiency of the custom control at the BCPs of the cooperation area countries as well as through enhancement of inter-agency cooperation of law enforcement agencies across borders of Lithuanian and Russia. In the aftermath of the project these measures will reduce the time for performing border formalities for passengers crossing the state borders. It will also decrease the queues of cargo vehicles on the border which in its turn will improve the general environmental situation. Efficient measures for the fight against the illegal turnover of goods will be implemented; this will result in creating more favorable conditions for the development of legal trade. Expected Results: 1. Modern, high flow capacity x-ray equipment will be introduced at the Panemunė and Kybartai international BCPs.2. Trainings for the Lithuanian Customs officials to use the acquired x-ray equipment will be carried out.3. 18 meetings of the inter-institutional Working Group will take place and 6 meetings of the project Steering Committee will be organized.
