Improvement environmental at the Lithuanian – Russian border (ILPR.01.01.00-72-039/10-00)

The overall objective of the project is the Lithuania-Russian cooperation in solving common environmental problems which can be established by way of achieving following specific objectives – improvement of the ecological situation in the Neman river basin and the Curonian Lagoon, construction of the leachate and waste water treatment plants in the landfills of Dumpiai village (Klaipeda, Lithuania) and Neman town (the Kaliningrad region, Russia), re-cultivation and closing of the landfill in Neman, promotion of activities and its results. Achievements: 1. The landfill wastewater and leachate are cleaned in Dumpiai (Klaipeda, Lithuania) and Neman (the Kaliningrad region, Russia).2. Two sources of water pollution are removed in Klaipeda and Neman districts.3. Constant monitoring is carried out testing surface water samples.4. The landfill in Neman town is re-cultivated and planted (5 ha), the area and source of pollution are fixed.5. Three conferences are organized.6. 2 information stands and 2 permanent stands are erected within the project location.7. 4 articles are published in local newspaper; information about the implementation of the project is being posted on two websites.
