Improvement and Dissemination of Community Oriented Policing Via Virtual Learning

VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR COMMUNITY POLICE OFFICERSThe Lifelong Learning Program Leonardo da Vinci Vocational Training Transfer of Innovation (ToI) project named “IMPROVEMENT AND DISSEMINATION OF COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING VIA VIRTUAL LEARNING (COP Project)” and coded “2010–1–TR1–LEO05–16797”, signed and launched on 1st of Dec. 2010 has been accomplished and finalized by 31st of July in 2012. In accordance with the scope of the project aiming to disseminate Community Policing Approach and Consciousness, which has been implemented throughout Turkey since 2006 under the scope of preventive security services, and to provide educational requirements of Security Organization staff through contemporary means, a virtual platform was established for police officers at all security units throughout Turkey enabling them to analyze real cases, share their experiences and get some advice in relation with problems they face on daily basis. The outcomes of the project established under the context of previously identified issues and content scope are accessible by relevant units through http://cop.erciyes.edu.tr. This learning environment includes e-learning materials and relevant reports about content development, pilot training and updating, prepared in accordance with the reports on relevant educational needs, under the following titles:(1) Prevention of Crime through Social Support (2) Essential Communication Skills for Community Police Officers (3) Essential Problem Solving Skills for Community Police Officers (4) Intercultural KnowledgeThe virtual learning environment established under the project has also a support unit through which police officers share their experiences and insights about daily cases they face. In order to obtain the stated outcomes, 4 international meetings and 4 regional workshops were organized under the project.
