Implementierung bilingualer Unterricht
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Background of the project: Bilingual lessons in the English language have been taught at our school as an experiment since 2008/9. One class of an age-group has been taught bilingually in the subjects General Science, Music and Arts. As the university education for teachers does not offer any training for bilingual lessons at primary schools, the bilingual team colleagues have cooperated with the University of Wuppertal/Germany and the school ministry (department curricula development). They have worked on a bilingual curriculum for our school and on appropriate working material for the pupils. Conferences for the bilingual team take place regularly where the aims of teaching are worked on and evaluated. So far none of the team has taken part in a special teacher training for English abroad. We want to increase the language competences of the teachers at our school, to test new methods of learning and to find the best working material for bilingual lessons, above all to support the motivation and to improve the communication competences of the pupils. Apart from that the bilingual project is very important in European aspects, e.g. finding a partner school in preferably English-speaking countries, exchanging pedagogical knowledge between the teachers and above all establishing exchange visits, pen-friendships, class trips for the pupils. Aims of the project: An increase of qualification and knowledge for qualified and high-class English lessons, e.g. improving the language competence of the participants, testing new teaching methods and working materials. For the pupils: communication and motivation. Number and profile of the participants: Two very ambitious colleagues of the bilingual team are applying for the training abroad. One of them has studied English, she is the head of the English department and has worked in the bilingual section of our school for 3 years. The other one is qualified for teaching English, is the head of the bilingual department and has worked in the bilingual section of our school for 5 years. Both colleagues have organized the bilingual project at our school decisively. Description of activities: The aims of the bilingual project are set up and evaluated in regular conferences of the bili-Team of our school before and after the teacher training concerning in quality optimized english lessons. During the teacher training the successful teaching of the English language will be taught and tested in collaboration with other teachers from all over Europe. In the course of this the own language competence will be demanded and extended as well as our practical methodological skills will increase. Procedure of realization of the project: After the general introduction of bilingual lessons at our school the installed curricula, topics and working materials have to be evaluated and to developed. The participation in the training lies in the middle of our achieved project time. So it is guaranteed that the training can be well prepared and evaluated. During the complete project time our school and our pupils respectively will benefit from the acquired qualifications and know-how. Results, effects and expected profit: For the period of 2 years of our bilingual project we expect a continual progress of our bilingual section both quantitatively and qualitatively. Apart from the development and evaluation of our bilingual curricula, the topics, the working materials, the teaching methods and the language competence, we hope to implement personal contact to teachers of primary schools in Europe. We would like to offer our pupils pen-friendships, class trips and exchange visits.
