Implementation of Interactive Whiteboard in schools

In order to achieve better results in schools, education sectors in many countries are facing the prospect of having to investing heavily in IT. Development in this area has progressed at speed and research into IT tools and didactics is not totally in line with technology development. Two municipalities, Aabenraa in Denmark and Linköping in Sweden decided to join forces and devise a model for procuring and implementing interactive whiteboards which would also include training courses as well as sample lessons. At Ruggkobbelskolen in Aabenraa interactive whiteboards were already in operation providing the school with broad experience in this field. However, there was still a need to develop the pedagogical use of these boards. The aim was to achieve interactivity that would engage both students and teachers and create opportunities for common dialogue and knowledge. The brief of the project was expanded to include more general school development as well as to provide the opportunity to study each other’s school culture. The four main focus areas of the project:1. Acquisition – A guide and proposal that can be used by local governments when planning investment strategies for purchasing interactive whiteboards for use in schools.2. Implementation and staff training – including guidelines and suggestions outlining the pedagogical dividends achievable when investing in interactive whiteboards.3. Pedagogical support and technical service – a strategic model for ensuring stable and continuous service and maintenance of a school’s interactive whiteboard.4. Best practice library of pedagogical examples. There is today a complete model of introducing ICT tools such as interactive systems in classrooms. This model is public and can be used by anyone as a guideline. We are now even more convinced about the certain advantages in close cooperation between local authorities, education organisations, single schools and teacher to teacher to improve the education.
