Images of young people in the future Europe
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our multinational project "Images of young people in the future Europe" shall meet today’s growing demand of having better educated people and the basic need of lifelong learning. This process must already start at school. Students must internalise that high motivation, striving for best results and aiming at an appropriate graduation from school this is the only possibility to get on a good way into their future. Thus they can influence their long-lasting employment and economic wealth. During their project work the students shall identify their personal potential by reflecting on their own identity in order to develop the key competences of young people of the present and future Europe. Hereby, especially competences necessary for the individual development, social integration, active citizenship, language competence, ICT- competence as well as the learning competence "learn to learn" are at the centre of attention. A student must be enabled to organize his learning process according to his own aspiration both as a single person and in a group and be aware of the methods and possibilities. In six steps, where the schools in Szczecin/PL, Orange/F, Tampere/FL, Neustrelitz/G, Ventspils/LV and Cuneo/IT shoulder responsibility, we want to realise the objectives. The following fields have priority: identity, tolerance, creativity, effectiveness through mobility, success through innovation and sense for democracy. First, starting from reflecting on the own identity and the personal potential, in multinational groups shall be worked out what requirements a young person of today’s Europe has to face. On that point, a draft of a portfolio will be started which has to be complemented in the next steps. In the 2nd part (tolerance) shall be found out what the adolescents unites and they shall develop understanding and acceptance. This will be reached through practical exercises in workshops; a questionnaire will be worked out. The competences will be developed further in the 3rd field (creativity). Focusing on “music and arts unite”, multinational teams are formed in which the students decide on a special form of arts (e.g. music, essay, poem, film, drawing) and create this piece of art together showing their community spirit and demonstrating the efforts for a joint Europe. After preparation in national groups, a project song shall be created, which then will become a symbol of identification with this project and its contents. In the 4th phase (effectiveness through mobility) the adolescents report on their own visions of their future and thus possible ways and options of how they can complete and continue their education in the own country and abroad are presented. By doing so, they compile a list of requirements of the single countries and Europe to focus on long term needed professions. Here language competence and ICT play an important role. As a result, a brochure is made which may be a helpful tool for the students in this process of transition from school to the world of study/ work. For the 5th step (success through innovation) the young people try to define what characterizes this field, how they can develop special strengths and how they can tap their own full potential. Using the example of a young enterprise of large commercial presence they shall learn that self-initiative and effectiveness are important keys to success. From the examples of the roads of life of young entrepreneurs the youth can draw conclusions for their own development. In the last step, all aspects are brought together again under the subject “sense for democracy”. The portfolio from the 1st step with all its additions is taken up again and checked anew with regard to the core themes of the project. At the end of the project the adolescents will rethink their views and the requirements which young people face nowadays based on newly gained knowledge. Thus they create an image of a role model of a young European person, which may be helpful for other adolescents. All parts of the project consist of 3 phases: preparation of the single themes in national groups (all participating students) using ICT to exchange information, project meetings (6 students each work together in multinational groups) and the reworking (the participating students work as multipliers in their national groups). During the whole project, a film team, set up by students, will document the activities and the progress of the project.
