The vocational school Alfeld (Leine) in Lower Saxony / Germany initiated a mobility project with the Zespol Szkol Chlodniczych i Elektronicznych in Gdynia / Poland. Apprentices and training establishments in the industries of metal or electrical engineering technology in the region Alfeld (Leine) supported the organization and implementation of such a project. Moreover, there was a great interest in the parts of the Polish school and the Polish internship companies. The participants developed further openness and understanding of other countries and cultures and therefore cultivated intercultural and inter-generational cooperation. Additionally, they got to know and appreciated European-wide working, learning and living conditions. Thus, the project´s participants´ European awareness to work or study as active citizens of the European Union in European countries after their training was enhanced and their readiness to support European democracy actively or passively was increased. Furthermore, international cooperation and relationships were built up by the comparison of working and vocational training strategies. The teaching assignment of the vocational school´s staff in Alfeld (Leine) was intended to stimulate new ideas for training in companies and schools and establishing collaborations. Finally, the "Europass Mobility" was issued to the participants. All together, eight participants were involved in the project. They were trained the professions of industrial mechanic or mechatronics in the dual system of vocational training. The practical training took place in training companies. The theoretical specialist knowledge was taught at the vocational school Alfeld (Leine). The trainees in industrial mechanics learned how to work with hand-controlled tools and machines in the metal technology. The mechatronics got to know skills, techniques and knowledge of metal technology and electrical engineering. The educational staff taught the students of industrial mechanics and mechatronics in the field of metalworking technology. Two lectureships completed the mobility project. The first flow of the activity took place with four participants and the educational staff in 2014. The trainee participants were working in the European partner country Poland for three weeks in internship companies. While working together with their Polish colleagues in the area of metal engineering or electrical engineering they learned from each other. Moreover. they were accommodated in host families in order to experience intercultural life in another European country. The teaching assignment included comparison of the implementation of vocational training in both, the German and the Polish schools and workplaces. The second flow of the activity took place with four participants and an educational staff in 2015 under equal conditions. A partnership agreement on the cooperation and the networking between the partners, which determined basic information and arrangements, was compiled. It included the provision of accommodation in host families, appropriate internship companies, the mentoring by the teachers on site, the project order and the learning arrangements as well as the teaching assignment of the educational staff. The vocational school Alfeld (Leine) took over - together with the Polish school in Gdynia - the organisation of the outward and return journey, the insurance, the accommodation in guest families and the placement companies. The participants expanded their professional and personal knowledge, skills and competencies and thus increased their chances for job applications, training and further education. Moreover, they received with the "Europass Mobility" (mobility passports) a proof about their staying and working abroad for three weeks. Hence, training companies, chambers of commerce and industry as well as the vocational school Alfeld (Leine) got more motivated, highly qualified and thus more powerful trainees - as well as companies in the future just such applicants as results of the advertising effectiveness of EU projects. The participants conveyed their professional and intercultural experiences to classmates, companies and friends by a presentation. In this context, the “Europass Mobility” was handed out to the participants. Both activities were accompanied by the regional press. All in all, the participants supported Europe with the project, bringing together people in Europe by using the learning space Europe in order to make Europe more competitive as well as to improve the quality of the education and training. Consequently, education became useful to companies, the school and in particular to students as a key for employment and growth with lasting effects as well as sustainable long-term benefits.
