Start date: Dec 1, 2014, End date: Nov 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

It is important to pay special attention to helping disabled students cope and manage their lives – that they receive an education according to their abilities, that they would find a suitable job, and live a purposeful life. Equal opportunities and inclusive education should ensure the inclusion of all students so that everybody’s development would be secured and that the drive to study and have fun in school would be available to all children, and also to teachers. Everyone, also including the disabled student, should be feeling as good as they can in a school, home and general environment and society. The goal of this project is to include students with lesser opportunities, i.e. disabled students, to intercultural dialogue with the help and mediation by the teachers; to advance in cooperation between education and job market by gaining experience from other European countries; to gain experience in student-centered approach to teach general skills; and to cooperate with different countries and schools in teaching disabled students, find our similar parts and receive new ideas and work on their application in our special situation. Our school would like to complement and develop the knowledge basis of our pedagoical staff in teaching disabled children by gaining a European wide experience. The most important experience being the successful interration of our students into social life and later on into job market. We would like to gain more knowledge in how to organise students’ job exercises already in school; how to adapt and which occupations are best for disabled students; what are the know-hows and skills that we can start teaching already in school, so that the disabled students can be more easily integrated into working life. The most important experience for our teachers is to see and experience the integrated curriculum for disabled students. The project includes the whole school personelle by sharing gained experience. Job shadowing will be done by two pedagogical staff members at once and they would be shadowing different teachers as to later share the different experience with each other and other teachers. It is very important to share the whole experience to the detail with the whole school staff, but also with parents, our community and national teachers’ newspaper and online. The experiences we hope to gain are two-fold: knowledge that we can put to use immediately and knowledge that is too advanced for us at this very moment, but would be a good basis to write a vision for the school’s future and start thinking about the implementation of that more advanced approach. At the end of the school year, we would analyse the immediate outcomes. After the job shadowing in our partner schools, we hope to stay in contact with them for a longer time. We will plan and introduce our experience in the offices of our community. As the direct result of our project, we hope to find suitable internships for our students or try to better accommodate the internship to the needs of our students in order to prepare them for supported work life.
