i-accessibility : Accessible Information for LL
Start date: Mar 1, 2011,

The focus of this project is i-accessibility – accessible information provision. The availability of public information in accessible formats in printed and electronic versions is an issue recognised as requiring attention at international and national levels. The right for all citizens to access information in a way that meets their needs is stressed within the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (UN CRPD, 2006). A key strategy for ensuring equal access to lifelong learning (LL) opportunities is providing information relevant for LL in formats that can be easily accessed by people with special needs. The goal of the i-accessibility project is to raise awareness regarding the importance of this issue and develop recommendations on how it can be addressed.Within this project the EA will host a major European conference bringing together national level stakeholders responsible for providing information relevant for lifelong learning, to debate the issues surrounding policy and practice for i-accessibility with key stakeholders for accessible (Information Communication Technology) ICT and representatives from EU level information providers, National support organisations for people with special needs, and representatives from the European Commission. These key stakeholders will agree upon recommendations for i-accessibility implementation within LL. The recommendations will be available in 22 European languages. In addition, a conference report summarising presentations and discussions, a dissemination package, a collection of examples of National level dissemination, as well as a dedicated web area with all project information will be made available. By involving European and National representatives, the i-accessibility project will provide National representatives with clear guidance on the strategies necessary for prioritising and supporting the effective implementation of i-accessibility within their countries.
