How to make Herlev Byskole MORE international

At Herlev Byskole we need a collective approach to working systematicly with the international dimension in our teaching and learning. We want our staff, students and parents to be able to see a clear progression within this field, throughout the three departments at the school (pre-preparatory classes, intermidiate stage and lower secondary education).Therefore we have decided to formulate a long term international policy plan. This plan will secure that we'll have a common approach and understanding and thereby make it clear to all staff at Herlev Byskole, what the expections and framework are as regards the international dimension in the teaching and learning.In order to fulfil these objectives, it is important that the headmaster, the international coordinators and the staff in the school library are enhanced in their qualifications, which will enable them to make out a collective plan for the school.Besides becomming able to make the plan, we also need additional input as to how we initiate, carry out and subsequently evaluate international activities and projects, in order to integrate it into the curriculum based teaching and learning.In the long term, when the staff have become confident in implementing international activities in their teaching and learning, we would also like to establish contacts to schools from other countries and eventually pass on these contacts to the staff.To ensure this, the headmaster, two international coordinators and two school librarians are going to participate in two different courses that meet our needs as regards fulfilling our vision and strategy on internationalisation of Herlev Byskole.After the courses we will establish workshops for the staff. In these workshops we will tell about our plan and recently acquired knowledge. During these workshops the staff will have the opportunity to work "hands on" when developing activities, anual calendars etc. in the different departments. This will enhance and facilitate the start-up in best possible way. In the future, the international coordinators and the school librarians will function as facilitators and heltpteachers to initiate, carry out and later evaluate various projects.
