HOW ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE A LIVING?

One of the seven flagship initiatives of the EU in its Europe 2020 Strategy is "Youth on the move" to enhance the performance of education systems and to facilitate the entry of young people to the labour market. Schools provide information about career paths but sometimes our students do not have a real perspective. It is also necessary to create a strategy to foster the entrepreneurship culture in our schools due to the low knowledge in this field. Despite the fact that they are digitally supportive schools, with ICT trained teachers, this does not seem to translate into the levels of ICT confidence that might be expected. This cross-curricular project tries to provide skills and knowledge in English, ICT and and Entrepreneurship in order to bridge the gap between the world of education and work. Besides, the development of a curriculum ("Integrated European Project") focused on these skills would make sense of this global approach. The activities will be implemented in different subjects: Maths,Social Sciences, Arts and Crafts, Technology, Business & Marketing and Integrated Project (depending on the topic), with a CLIL approach. OBJECTIVES Pupils will: - Know in depth career opportunities and the world of work related to pupils' interests as a part of students’ general preparation for their future career choices - Research and compare different professions and jobs in Spain, Germany and Austria. - Develop a sense of entrepreneurship through attitudes (self-awareness and self-confidence), knowledge (career opportunities, types of work, economic and financial contents) and skills (communication, presentation and transversal skills) - Increase the exposure to English and the performance in English skills through ICT based activities. - Develop transversal skills such as the ability to think critically, take initiative, problem solve and creativity through a collaborative work - Produce videos about professions and jobs through a collaborative work. - Increase the use of ICT and OER to produce and disseminate results to a broader level. - Improve the performance to Maths applying the knowledge acquired in financial and economic problems and research activities. Teachers will: - Integrate ICT tools and Open Educational Resources in their teaching plans and methods. - Implement a CLIL approach in the activities to encourage the use of English as a communicative tool - Increase the achievement levels of their pupils in key competences by implementing a multidisciplinary approach - Develop a new curriculum focused on ICT and Entrepreneurship from an European perspective. TARGET GROUPS 45 Pupils aged 15-17 will be the participants in this project so that they can finish the second year of the project with a better knowledge of the career paths or professions to make better decisions and to increase their competences in ICT, English, Entrepreneurship and Maths. 25 Teachers of different subjects will improve their planning and collaborative skills, working in a global project, using eTwinning and developing a new curriculum related to this project. The project involves participation of organisations from different fields of education, such as Teachers' Training Centers and organisations which promote Entrepreneurship. They will contribute with dissemination and multiplier events and with a real perspective of the world of work, apart from helping to develop the specific curriculum. METHODOLOGY We will use an innovative methodology based on a global approach addressing several key competences (Communication in foreign languages, Mathematical competence, Digital competence, Learning to learn and Entrepreneurship) simultaneously in a cross-curricular manner with a CLIL approach and a collaborative work methodology through ICT activities, such as the production and edition of videos. The OER will be used to communicate and present the results This project is complementary with the eTwinning project: “How are you going to make a living?”, which started on 3rd March 2015. By far, 39 students and 9 teachers from the three participating schools have signed up and they are developing the introductory phase of this project, getting to know one another and getting used to using Twinspace and some ICT tools which they are going to use the following two years with this Erasmus project. The previous Comenius projects carried out in the three schools focused on developing English competences (one of the main objectiv This project is carried out transnationally because is the only way to compare different professions and jobs in European countries through a collaborative work among pupils form different nationalities. One of the most important activities is the production of a video about a profession chosen by a student and it has to be done with the help of another student of another country to get in contact with professionals of that field and producing the video in both countries working collaboratively.
