Household Services Abroad (Houseserve) - Training System for Household Assistants, Accreditation and Counselling of their Employment Abroad

Houseserve will establish a training package for Household Assistants (and those considering this type of employment) to learn basic skills in Greek to enable them to undergo their daily work more effectively.Based on the concept that there exists a shortage of Household Assistants in the 2 Southern partner countries (EL & CY) and that the remaining partner countries (LT & BU) already face increasingly high unemployment, it was felt that this partnership was well suited to trial this area of language development. The partners will focus on the basic linguistic demands of the industry and will develop specific language-learning tools for use by those currently employed or considering this type of work. The tools will comprise a job relations guide (containing information on cultural habits, contractual obligations and social rights); a series of videotapes (filmed on-site within the industry) and interactive language training software (developed specially by the partnership to meet the needs of the industry).A pilot group from the 2 source countries will undergo a short period of immersion in the language through on-site placement and participants will also pilot a tool for the remote certification of trainee language competence. In addition to the specific end-user tools, specialised language training will be undergone by language training personnel in the source countries (LT & BU) to also include a period of on-site learning in the target environment.
