The Applicant Organization , Zespol Szkol Morskich in` Gdańsk, is planning to implement and carry out the second edition of a project called “A hotel worker in London”. The project concerns a group of 20 students aged 17 and 18, studying at a secondary technical school (hospitality major) and two teachers from the school. The partner Organization is ADC College from London, an organization offering education and professional development programmes for students and teachers from many countries. The students from Zespol Szkol Morskich who will take part in the project will be chosen according to a clear set of criteria set by the school headmaster and designated teachers. The participants are going to have a 4-week training in hotels in London according to a programme developed together with ADC College, after taking into consideration the participants’ needs and expectations. This programme will correlate with the Polish syllabus of the Ministry of Education for hospitality major. Before leaving, the students with attend a course which will give them psychological, cultural and linguistic preparation. Emphasis will be placed on a stay in multicultural and multiethnic London, apprenticeship in international working environment and thorough psychological preparation for a month stay in a big metropolis in a foreign country. ADC College is going to organize work practice in a number of London hotels and accommodation with host families, public transport and transfer from and to the airport. During the time of the project the students will be supervised by the appointed teachers from Zespol Szkol Morskich. They will also be provided constant monitoring of their progress by the experienced workers of the Partner Organization, ADC College. In the time of their stay in London the participants will find out about the tourist values of London and will be able to participate in an interactive way in the multicultural environment, in the city where people from the whole world meet. Apprenticeship in London hotels, where workers from many countries are employed, will enable them to gain not only professional competences, but also cultural, personal and practical ones. The necessity to use English language during work and afterwards will increase the communication skills, which, due to the fact that Poland is becoming more and more popular among foreign visitors, may prove a great asset for the students’ future careers. After the project concludes and the students return to Poland, the ECVET procedure will be implemented and the students will be awarded Europass - Mobility Certificates. The effects of the project will be disseminated in the school, local and national environment (website, articles in the press, hotel conferences), but also internationally (references and job offers from London hotels). The predicted aims of the project are: - gaining high European competences and professional skills in hospitality industry - getting better professional perspectives and adaptation to rapidly developing working environment, also international - increasing quality of work of the team of teachers responsible for professional training - acquiring better English language skills - increasing multicultural and European awareness - deepening the knowledge of the benefits of European projects, higher motivation towards future projects - achieving higher motivation in learning and personal development, self-confidence and life long learning process - increasing professional mobility - learning the history, culture and tourist attractions of London. All in all, the project will definitely contribute to higher quality of work of Zespol Szkol Morskich, the applicant, in the future, with special regard to its innovative and international character. It will have a positive impact on the international mobility of the students and teachers.
