Hospitals' E-Learning and Information Exchange Portal for Patients, Staff and Everyone else
Start date: Jan 1, 2011,

The H.E-L.P. project "Hospitals eLearning and Information Exchange Portal for Patients, Staff and Everyone else", refers to the following situation in Europe's health care sector on hospital level:- Enormous high health care costs due to an over-aging society and increase of chronic diseases- Strong focus on expensive high-tech treatments in modern medicine with a very strong curative approach (lack of preventive approach!)- Lack of communication and information exchange between medical staff, patients, their relatives and other stakeholders (such as political decision makers, insurance companies etc.)- Difficulties to provide especially migrants with proper medical treatment and to make them understand about the importance of health issues and prevention H.E-L.P. will introduce a new dimension of communication and information exchange between medical staff and patients as well as other stakeholders. At the same time, the focus will be put on prevention, education and learning concerning most relevant health issues, in a way everybody can easily follow and understand. Special attention will be paid to the special needs and demands of patients with migrant background, since they are in danger not to receive ideal health services due to language and cultural barriers. Therefore, the project will implement the following activities and results:- European Survey concerning content, issues, technical solutions, pedagogic structures etc. of Web 2.0 based portals (H.E-L.P.) for hospitals- Development of a H.E-L.P. master version in 7 languages, including health learning units, discussion forms, ombudsman service, link section etc.- Development of 5 fully developed national versions of H.E-L.P. (each in national language, EN and two minority languages of the country)- Publication of a Handbook with quality standards and key criteria for patient-oriented and customer-friendly hospital websites- Donation of an Award for best practice hospital websites/portals
