The lesson observation programme Lesson Observation by Colleagues: an Effective Way to Enhance Teachers’ Competence is a job shadowing project that will give the teachers from IX Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace in Cracow an opportunity to broaden their professional competence (methods of teaching, new didactic techniques, teaching organisation, teaching of learning techniques particularly in science subjects, cooperation with students doing sport on a professional level, use of the Moodle platform, student motivation), which will help them become better teachers for their students. The participants of the project will acquire a better understanding of multiculturalism and will become more open-minded, they will encourage their students to take part in international projects. The teachers will develop their foreign language skills. The school will strengthen its cooperation skills in Europe and it will perfect the cooperation with its present partners from Germany and Italy. In the future, international contacts will be broadened and more international student projects will be carried out due to the fact that a greater number of teachers will be willing to get involved thanks to the experience gained in the present project. The teachers will be highly motivated and will have a greater job satisfaction. The project has two stages: preparation (September 2015 – May 2016), and the foreign mobility (June 2016). Six teachers will take part in the June mobility: science and language teachers. They volunteered for the project for they are interested in international cooperation and eager to develop their skills and key competences, the math teachers are looking for effective methods of student motivation. In the course of preparation for the foreign mobility, the teachers will take part in a language and a multicultural courses, and a workshop devoted to practical uses of colleague lesson observation. The foreign mobility will take place from Monday 27.06.2016 to Friday 01.07.2016. The teachers will observe 4-5 lessons and discuss 1-2 lessons with the observed teacher in accordance with the rules of colleague lesson observation. The teachers will observe preparations for the lesson, analyse homework, short tests, tests, learn how to use the Moodle platform, observe school life and take part in it, talk with the German teachers, and at the end of each day evaluate it and prepare a report. In the afternoons, the project participants will get to know the heritage of Middle Rhine in informal tourist situations that facilitate the development of language skills and interpersonal competence.Methodology used for the preparation and realisation of the project: analysis of needs, definition of goals, setting the rules of realisation and formulating the expected results, project management (choosing the coordinator and persons in charge), determining the schedule: (language courses, multicultural course, lesson observation workshop, foreign mobility), budget estimation, organizational matters (air travel, food and accommodation, transport), quantitative and qualitative evaluation.It is anticipated that the participants of the project will develop their language skills, broaden their knowledge of effective teaching methods, especially in science subjects, acquire better skills in modern multimedia techniques (use of interactive boards and their software), improve the quality of their lessons, (better planning, better use of time) perfect their skills in student motivation, improve their skills in lesson observation – they will learn how to give, receive and implement feedback acquired in the course of colleague lesson observation to change the quality of their lessons, they will also raise their multicultural awareness, which will result in their greater tolerance and empathy towards different cultures. Students will have teachers who are better educated and more motivated.The participants of the project, the applicant and the partner school will broaden their contacts with other countries, become more involved in European problems, raise their awareness and reflection on value differences, the teachers will improve their key competences and skills in project planning and realisation. The schools will gain recognition in the local communities.
