Home-care in Europe - Flexible Vocational Training of Home-Nurses within the European Health Care Area, where Acquired Skills will be Recognised through Validation

The Home-care in Europe project has three primary aims: to meet a fast growing demand for better trained labour in the home-care of the elderly, to provide better opportunity for labour market access to certain underprivileged groups and to implement technology-supported, flexible training for the sector. Many employees working in home-care of the elderly do not have the formal competencies for the work they are performing. The persons employed in this field comprise mainly women, immigrants and/or those with minimal levels of education. Few of these employees have the time to attend training programmes beyond working hours. This project aims at producing a more flexible training alternative where an individual learners' existing work and life experience is both validated and assessed. Specific tools for validation/assessment will be developed by the project, in addition to a handbook for trainers and some nine web-based, flexible course modules. All products will be tested and culturally adapted for individual partners' local needs.Dissemination of the results of the project will focus primarily upon seminars for employers, decision-makers and for those working in the sector and will take the form of 3 international fairs in addition to fairs in each of the partner countries.
