The socially and economically underdeveloped Nógrád and Baskobystrick counties have worked out a joint development programme. The improvement of the cycle-path network is an element for enhancing active tourism and thus improving health conditions. Following the realization of the development 190 km of cycle path network will be available, tourism will increase, economy will develop and unemployment may decrease. The cycle path affects 34 settlements, 144.000 people. The cycle-path network is partly a network of national importance, partly that of regional importance, since it is connected to both local and national network. Achievements: The improvement of the cycle path network contributes to enhancing active tourism in the cross-border region of the Nógrád and Banská Bystrica counties. The planned cycle path affects both counties to approximately the same extent, when determining its track by the natural and architectural values. As a result of the project, a feasibility study and technical plans for a cross-border bicycle path were prepared according to the legal requirements of both countries. The planning activities involved 34 municipalities in the area concerned. The planned route was made public through an illustrated map. The project partners would like to build the bicycle path in the programme period 2014-2020.
