Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: Sep 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our students, in the two-year STS technical programme in International Trade preparing for the European Advanced Technical Diploma, have to complete a two-month internship abroad, as part of their education. We wish to take this opportunity to strengthen our ties with Europe ( even if the international opening goes beyond the European borders). Reaffirming the ties and the history of the building of Europe is also a duty for our institution. Within this framework and in compliance with the European reference of the diploma, we have applied to the Erasmus programme (and today Eramus+) in order to relate our students to this common history, to enable them to benefit from sccholarships and to facilitate mobility. Every year, around 20 students carry out their work placement in one of the European countries ; however, only 14 or so students have benefited from an Erasmus scholarship so far. Their main missions consist in canvassing new customers, managing import/export operations as well as logistics operations, setting up a quality charter…. The linguistic and cultural dimension is also essential. The students gradually overcome the barriers of the language , in a culture and history in which they are committed, today and in the future. This cultural and on-the-job immersion takes place at the end of their first-year programme. When they come back from the two-month internship, we notice many changes : first of all, concerning the language, the immersion has enabled them to improve their oral and written communication skills. At a professional level, the results are always satisfactory, all the more as the work placement has provided them with technical skills as well as an international vision of the world of work. In their second year, the students have become more involved and mature on a personal level. We often see these students, once they have passed their European diploma, carry on their studies abroad. What remains to be implemented is to make study mobility a reality, as our students, 75% of which benefit from a scholarship, have to face school and financial problems.
