Our project consists in developing multicultural cooperation and encouraging students, faculty and staff mobility, in Europe and on an international scale, by building up projects and networks, in line with the validation process of the Erasmus+ charter for Higher Education. For our Design students, that includes enriching their vision of design, by giving them the opportunity to discover the practices of other countries, to develop an interest in other cultures and thus to better prepare them for professional integration, thanks to internships and stays, in Europe and internationally. 500 undergraduate students are enrolled in our school, in 1st year and 2nd year training courses, in applied arts and industrial fields (2-year higher degrees: BTS – equivalent of HNDs and DMA – a 2-year technical degree in costume making). 100 students in their 3rd and 4th year are also preparing for a Master I degree in Design. These students, being older and more experienced, are more keenly interested in doing an internship abroad. Few of them are planning a student exchange programme at the moment. Students in their 3rd year are prepared for the mobility period as follows: Language preparation (English), following the requirements of the national curriculum for the diploma. Intercultural preparation: lectures on history of art, history of Science and technology, to anticipate cultural challenges A one-week mobility programme in a European city, centered around professional meetings with agencies and studios, so as to better prepare further mobility (for studies or for internships) This project was particularly successful and relevant in terms of further mobility in the first 2 years of its existence. It was renewed, but unfortunately did not produce the expected results: in a context of increased security in Europe, the students, to a great extent, chose to organize mobility to other continents, and therefore mobility in Europe last year plummeted by more than a half.
