Higher education student and staff mobility project

As its predecessor in the project year 2014 as well as the projects under LLP, the project Erasmus+ 2015 was a vital part of TU Chemnitz‘ continued internationalisation activities. At the same time, it provided the foundation for the biggest part of all international mobilities (especially in the field of student mobilities) that took place during the duration of the project. All programme activities are firmly incorporated in the Departments in concern and are connected to all relevant units at TU Chemnitz in regard to administrational as well as academical matters (International Office, Departments/Faculties, University Management). Prime objectives and aims of the realization of the project were: 1) contributing to achieving the general objectives of the programme generation, for example to support learners in the acquisition of learning outcomes, improve their employability and foreign language competence and to contribute in developing their sense of European citizenship and identity and therefore simultaneously contributing to achieving the objectives given within the framework of the strategy “Europe 2020” 2) to enable a possibly large number of eligible applicants to participate in the programme 3) carrying out all activities with high quality as well as in compliance with all the programme’s requirements, commitments and guidelines 4) the continuation and extension of the internationalisation activities as well as fostering the international focus of TU Chemnitz The number of mobilities in the field of SMS could be clearly increased by 30% compared to the project 2014 and comprised students enrolled in more than 20 different study programmes on Bachelor as well as Master level. In the field of STA and STT staff from 10 different departments and of different levels of seniority participated. The average mobility duration of study stays was 4.7 months, while staff mobilities had an average duration of 4 days and were funded by the by now well established way of applying the fixed rates for financial support of costs of travel and subsistence. In well-proven manner, all fields of programme activities were being announced and advertised without restrictions and via different channels, e.g. online information offers, e-mails, information sessions, leaflets and personal counseling. The mobilities were being conducted in close cooperation by all concerned units, applying the principles of equal treatment and transparency. The approved budget was used to full capacity. Once again the vast majority of participants was very satisfied respectively satisfied with their mobility stays. Especially in the field of student mobility also the extent of satisfaction regarding the improvement of personal competences and skills was very pleasing. With regard to the overall results it can be assumed that the aims and objectives that were being set have been reached. Furthermore, the evaluation allowed for identification of specific potential for improvement. Especially as the EU-Survey questionaires in 2015 for the first time covered the whole number of programme participants, they were an essential source of mobilitiy data that proved to be a useful input for discussion on further proceedings with other units at the university that are connected to the programme activities. Also to be continued was the offer for online availability of personal reports written by student participants that serve as an additional source for motivation of potential student participants. Former outgoing students that participate in the International Office’s Student Buddy Programme could not only contribute their international experiences into the university life but also provide a most welcomed addition to the support and integration activities for incoming students already offered by the International Office. Additionally, also the experiences made by participants in the fields of staff mobility contribute to further internationalisation in the fields of teaching and research at the Departments. Furthermore, these experiences can also foster the extension of already existing cooperations as well as provide opportunities for initiating new cooperations.
