The University of Aberdeen is very committed to supporting and expanding internationalisation. The Erasmus+ programme and student and staff mobility opportunities are fundamental to the achievement of the institution's aims in this respect. Internally, the University's key objectives are to make student and staff mobility accessible to all our staff and students, regardless of background or course of study, and to manage the programme effectively to ensure it meets Charter requirements. The qualitative analysis in this report provides an accurate summary of the 2014/15 project which was well-managed and in-line with European Commission and National Agency objectives as well as institutional strategy, despite the difficulties encountered at the beginning of the project due to the late issuing of paperwork and funding. Activities were successfully carried out in all four budget areas with 32 participants for SMP; 128 for SMS; 10 for STA and 7 for STT.
The Erasmus+ programme is promoted at University of Aberdeen under our 'Go Abroad' banner to showcase the opportunities available to prospective and current students and staff. Activities include an annual Go Abroad Fair, International Week, daily drop-in sessions and information-dissemination through our academic networks. Mentoring and support was offered to participants throughout the duration by the central Erasmus Team, departmental Go Abroad Tutors and on a peer-to-peer level by our team of Go Abroad Ambassadors.
The positive feedback from both inbound and outbound participants detailed in this report is testament to the quality management and embedding of the programme within our distinct University setting, with notable results and good practice examples in a number of areas.
The impact of participation in Erasmus+ can be seen at both an individual level and at an institutional level, and even more widely in the local area. Outbound students achieve key University of Aberdeen graduate attributes; inbound students make positive contributions both in the classroom and in extra-curricular activities bringing a richness to our student population; and institutional partnerships facilitate opportunities for joint research collaborations, sharing of best practice and profile raising.
The longer-term benefits of participation in Erasmus+ will include a more mobile and international student population, successful graduates, a motivated workforce and a widely connected University.
