Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Founded in 1975, the coordination office for the practical semesters (KOOR) based at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences is a state-wide institution for all universities of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg. To accomplish the European "Lifelong Learning Program (LLP) / Erasmus+", the Erasmus consortium "Baden-Württemberg Partnership for the Exchange of Students, Graduates and Knowledge Transfer" (BEST) was added to KOOR in 1997. Currently 41 varsities collaborate with KOOR/BEST within key action 1 under Erasmus+. A total of 927 mobilities were achieved in 2014-16 in all three mobility lines SMP, SMS and ST. Within SMP, the main mobility line of the consortium, 877 beneficiaries (18 of which were graduates) received a grant. SMP Participants are students and graduates from both universities and public and private universities of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg. Within SMS, 41 students from colleges of music and art received a grant. The mobility line ST comprised 9 beneficiaries from colleges of music and art. This shows that KOOR/BEST covers almost all types of universities in Baden-Württemberg. Within SMP and SMS, the objective of the project was to gain additional practical and theoretical experience, intercultural communication skills and other key qualifications to increase students’ and graduates’ chances on a more and more international labour market, amongst others. Many beneficiaries could gain experience they can benefit from regarding further orientation within their studies and their future profession. Participants within the mobility lines STA and STT were able to gain new ideas and draw inspiration from their insight into the foreign university system for their work at a German university. In some cases, the experiences gained abroad enabled the participants to change rigid structures and implement more innovative processes. Networking at the receiving organisations increased international contacts of the consortium's varsities and therefore also provides vivid exchange and the use of synergies in the future. All the participants could strengthen their intercultural competences and develop a sense for the European identity through differences and similarities. Constantly adapting internal quality management processes such as the online application portals Mobility and Placement Online improved monitoring of the participants. In the long run, the network of institutions and companies all over Europe and the related check of receiving organisations for internships ensures that future interns have access to an increasing amount of job offers for high-quality internships. Furthermore, as the amount of document processing diminished, combining administrative tasks within the Erasmus consortium KOOR/BEST reduced the workload of the partner universities. Now they can use the additional time for supporting their participants.
