Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The aim of the Erasmus+ mobility project under KA1 “Learning mobilities of individuals” at the Silesian university in Opava (SU) was to realize: Student mobility for studies – in the amount of 100 students/500 weeks Student mobility for Traineeships – in the amount of 5 students/20 weeks Staff mobility for Teaching – in the amount of 38 participants/236 days Staff mobility for Training – in the amount of 9 participants/57 days. All these activities were successfully realized in accordance with the quality commitment of SU Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2014-2020 (ECHE) and Erasmus Policy Statement. There were realized 183 mobilities in total at SU in 2014. 103 students (68 women, 35 men) participated in the activity of Student mobility for studies, 11 students (8 women, 3 men) participated in Student mobility for Traineeships. 52 employees (23 women, 29 men) participated in Staff mobility for Teaching and 17 employees (7 women, 10 men) in Staff mobility for Training. There was no interest in the mobility among the students from disadvantaged background and among the participants with special needs. 1 traineeship mobility of recent graduate was realized. The total duration of Student mobility was 533 months and 10 days (when counting the days without the EU financial support of partial zero-grant students and full zero-grant days). The total duration of Staff mobility was 323 days. Financial support allocated to SU for the realization of the project was completely used. Through the participation in the Erasmus+ programme the students and employees were given not only the chance to improve their language competences, but also to understand different cultures. After the mobility activity the students assessed themselves as more confident, open-minded and independent. They learned better how to plan and organise tasks and activities, to cooperate in teams and with people from other cultures and to think and analyse information critically. They appreciate these new competencies not only during their university studies but especially in their future professional career after graduation. Thanks to the participation in Erasmus+ mobility activity the teachers gained new skills relevant for their current job and professional development, reinforced and extended their professional network and cooperation with the partner institutions. They also learned from good practices abroad. The Erasmus+ programme participants are also more willing to play an active role in the international activities of the university and motivate and support students without any experience with the programme to study abroad. Through the realization of Erasmus+ mobility programme the university is able to strengthen one of the university´s funding indicators and increase the employability of the students after their graduation. The awareness of SU abroad is growing together with the increasing number of the Erasmus+ participants. Enhancement of the international cooperation as one of the long-term objectives of the university also makes it possible for the university to promote the establishment of study programmes taught in foreign language and joint and double degree programmes.
