Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

In the context of KA103 mobility projects for single HEI beneficiaries and mobility consortia the Medical University of Graz could perform 97 single mobilities in the year 2014 / 2015 sending students, teachers and other staff members of the University and also finance them in the biggest part from EU funds. The target groups are informed about the possibilities and conditions of the Erasmus programme continuously through the homepage, mailings, information events and individual consultations. Respective the linguistic preparation for the studies and work abroad the Medical University of Graz supported the outgoing students with the acquisition of language course costs to a maximum of € 200,-- From January 2015 students who wanted to study at partner institutions where the lessons are given in English, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch or German (if it is not the native language, and equivalent knowledge cannot be detected) were then also nominated for the OLS assessment in that certain language. In addition the OLS tool offers also the opportunity to attend online language courses, which also most of the students took advantage of. At the end of the study or work period abroad, the foreign language skills were checked again within a second assessment to determine whether they have improved through the stay, which was also consistently the case. Based on interinstitutional agreements 35 students could study at partner institutions abroad after the equivalence of the study programmes have been checked and approved in advance through the learning agreement that had to be signed by all three parties and the request for prerecognition. So they could complete a part of their studies in a foreign country and beside that also expand their language skills, their cultural competence, deepen their personality and make diverse contacts, which most likely also will be useful for their later career. In addition to the study visits, the Erasmus programme promotes also the completion of traineeships - at the Medical University of Graz this option was used by 50 students especially within medical study programme for the final and practical year, where almost exclusively mandatory practical placements have been attended in other European countries. With the careful preparations on the exchange semester or year and the support by the co-ordinator and all other involved bodies along the way, also a usually trouble-free accreditation could be provided. Teaching Assignment was mainly based on long-term cooperations, but also new contacts could be established and deepened. Foreign language teaching, mostly in the English language contributes to the "internationalisation at home" at the Medical University of Graz, where teachers are encouraged to offer teaching units also in English. The staff training, mostly applied for by administrative and non scientific staff, mainly consisted of job shadowing and the learning of new methods. Participants could compare workflows and processes, evaluate them and gain new knowledge, which should contribute to the improvement of the work in the future at the Med Uni Graz. These staff trainings also deepen existing partnerships on an additional level or lead to new cooperations for the benefit of all members of the University. Of course the Medical University of Graz does not only support their own outgoing students and staff, but also seeks to provide the best support, outcome and experiences for incoming students, teachers and colleagues as well, to make them feel secure, well prepared and satisfied. Information material is sent to the incomings before they go abroad and orientation days help them to get along within the new academic and cultural environment. Buddies assist incoming students in administrative matters and in social and academic life, German language courses are offered and students are invited to join all kinds of events. All activities within the Erasmus programme were operated under the principles of the Erasmus Charta. Concerning accomodation the ÖAD is a great help, meeting the needs of the students largely through its wide range of well equipped but low-cost student dormitories.
