Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Europass is a school project at Lycée Acajou II, a general and technological high school located in Lamentin, Martinique, French West Indies, that embodies our willingness to work abroad. This project, which aims to expose our students to the rest of the world by means of international internships, was started in 2012, the year we obtained our first Erasmus charter. The 24-month program, Europass, was then launched - lasting from 2012 to May 2016. We thought this program was a great opportunity for our students, who live on a remote island 7,500 kilometers from mainland France, to open themselves up to Europe and immerse themselves in new cultures and professional workspaces. The students Seven vocational training students (BTS/HND), working either in the after-sales automotive sector (AVA) or as technical engineering assistants (ATI), were given the opportunity to work in Cork, Ireland by means of internships. First, the students applied for a work placement in Europe before being selected by our teaching staff. After their arrival in Ireland, the students attended a two week English course at Cork English Academy, after which they received diplomas from the accredited CEFRL test (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Most of the students increased their proficiency in English and went from a level A1 to a level A2 and B1 by the end of their internships. After improving their proficiency in English, the students then completed a seven week work placement. The AVA students worked at the automotive dealership Kearys and the technical engineering assistants worked in industrial production facilities - all in accordance with the framework of their final exams. The benefits and expected results are consistent with the objectives of this program. In fact: All the students were able to pass the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) upon their return On a professional and educational level, the completed traineeships fully fitted the specifications of their guidelines, and the tasks they carried out while working enabled the students to develop certain skills As a result, their test scores - when presenting their internship reports - were very satisfactory and ranged from 14 to 17 out of 20. So as a whole, the Europass appears to have a long-term benefit on our students that will aid them in the future as they search for later job prospects. The staff members For the first time, eleven school staff members benefitted from training that was related to these international internships. In addition to the students, our eleven staff members all improved their English language skills. For the teachers who were preparing for non-linguistic subjects (DNL), being abroad was advantageous because they could share different teaching techniques and exchange and observe their European counterparts. The personal benefit has been immense for all. As a whole, all of these newly acquired linguistic, cultural and pedagogical skills that our students and staff have learned during this work experience will undoubtedly add value to Lycée Acajou II.
