Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The participation in the Programme will first and foremost enhance mobility opportunities for students and staff and enhance transnational learning which is indispensable for studies in international relations and diplomacy. Studying at a foreign partner institution or traineeship in international organization and enterprises all raise key competences and skills which are of great importance to the labour market and society. Mobility activities will develop their intercultural awareness, language competence, increase professional skills and employability. Participating in mobility activities will also help in solving problems of academic recognition and eliminate obstacles to switching institutions which as a result might increase not only horizontal but vertical mobility as well. Academic staff mobility for the purposes of teaching and training is an integral part of professional development strategy at the College. Staff's international experience will serve to develop innovative and successful teaching and learning methods, modernise the existing curriculum and in such a way promote excellence and quality of teaching. Mobility activities and cooperation projects can also lead to developing joint courses or joint degrees with compatible institutions abroad. Overall development of international performance will improve the institutional governance and transparency of its activities. It will enhance the visibility of the institution, making it more attractive to students, academics and researchers from our country and from abroad. Programme participation will undoubtedly increase the scope of our international cooperation, improve the quality and relevance of our study programmes and play a key role in the College's overall modernisation strategy. The aim of the project was to provide the students and teaching personel with the possibility to participate in the mobility scheme that the programme offers (mobility for studies and traineeship, and mobility for teaching and training). What was expected was that the mobility would result in improved competences, language knowledge and overall international experience of the participants which in turn would then positively affect and add to their further studies and work. Within the project 3 mobilities in total were realized, all of which were undertaken by students. Out of those 3 student mobilities, 2 were undergraduate and single was graduate level. Mobility for studies involved two students spending almost 4 full months at a partner institution in Macedonia at the study programme of Political science at undergraduate level. One student from the graduate study programme spent 4 months at a Andrassy University in Budapest at their Diplomacy and International Relations programme in German language. It is worth to mention that Andrassy University is the only German speaking graduate/PhD level institution outside Germany and Austria recognized as equal by German and Austrian state authorities. Staff mobility was planned to be undertaken by in total 3 persons. At the end it was not materialized due to lack of permanent staff employed by our institution. Part of funds awarded to teaching staff mobilities was transferred to student mobilities. In the 2015 round of Erasmus+ funding this was already changed due to newly employed personnel. Our students took part in selected courses at respective institutions fulfilling all course requirements from class attendance to examinations. The student mobility apart from resulting in newly gained intercultural experience and awareness, provided students with increased competences, language knowledge and greater sense of self-esteem. With their experience the students contributed to increased motivation among other students for taking part in mobility and also motivated them to help inbound students during their stay at the University College of International Relations and Diplomacy Dag Hammarskjöld. The students’ experiences have proven to be extremely positive and because of that the next Erasmus 2015+ students have already opted for the same institutions (while we have Erasmus+ agreements with further 4 institutions there is no interest for them). Same applies to Erasmus + 2016 program that is still in preparation.
