Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Erasmus+ individual mobility is not considered as a single project as such. Utrecht University has been participating since the start of the Erasmus programme in 1987; it is completely integrated in the curriculum by now and all students are familiar with the funding opportunities. It was and still is in line with the institutions international ambitions and profile. The exchange programmes (Erasmus and all other) contribute to the general aim to educate as many graduates as possible with an international experience as part of their curriculum, as described in the institution's strategic plan. Student mobility numbers are growing, within Europe and outside. Teaching staff numbers are stable through the years and staff training is becoming more well-known and attractive as an opportunity for professionalization. We continue to promote student exchange with partners in the programme countries. Since the EU budget granted to Utrecht University for this project was not sufficient to finance all eligible mobilities, we cannot state that the project contributed to the objective to increase the numbers. With the added funding from university sources however, 401 students have received a grant for studies, 95 for traineeships, 19 staff members for teaching assignments and 18 staff member were abroad for training mobility. Studies and teaching activities do not need further explanation. Most of the traineeships in sciences take place at academic research departments and in arts and humanities at cultural or social organisations. Staff training activities are mostly job shadowing, courses as offered by the EAIE Academy or staff training weeks organised by partner universities. Impact is predominantly on the individual participants, the KA103 project as a whole contributes to the international profile of Utrecht University.
