Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project was implemented as an integral part of the internationalisation policy of the university. The institution has tried to foment its student and staff mobility through the project. It applied for a total of 38 mobilities, 8 for studies, 6 for traineeships, 8 for teaching staff and 16 for staff training. In the end 7 mobilities were realised, 1 for studies, 5 for teaching staff and 1 for staff training purposes. Whereas the implementation of staff mobility activities was quite successful, student mobility lagged behind. This is due to the general low percentage of outgoing student mobility at the university, which is a result of the lack of flexibility of its study programmes and the profile of its student population. Students that do go abroad generally prefer mobility outside of Europe, especially to our partner institutions in South Africa. The results in the area of staff mobility for teaching were a lot better. Staff members, of whom three full professors as well as the director of education, offered guest lectures at partner institutions in Finland, Hungary, Norway and Romania (2). These guest lectures are considered important for the consolidation of the relationships with these partner institutions, as well as for the recruitment of international students for the international master's programme of the university. In the same period the university received 6 staff members from European partner institutions for teaching and training purposes. The PThU also received 4 incoming master students from Hungary and Romania in the framework of the Erasmus+ programme. Both have an important impact on the internationalisation at home strategy of the university. Although the absolute numbers appear to be quite low, and they are actually lower than the application numbers, the percentage of the used budget is quite good. Around 100% of the budget for teaching staff mobility was used and 50% of the budget for student mobility for studies (as the study period abroad was longer than the number of months applied for per student). Furthermore it is important to mention that the number of staff participating in the mobility for teaching programme has increased with 500% (!) in comparison with the last year of the LLP Erasmus programme (2013-2014). This is promising towards the future.
