Higher education student and staff mobility project

Project Mobility of students and university staff of 24 months fulfilled the planned objectives and in some respects even surpassed them. Within the project from 30 allocated mobilities we carried out 27. 10 outgoing students: 2 studies (Hungary, Czech Republic), 8 traineeships (Austria, England, Czech Republic, including 2 graduates); 8 staff mobility / teaching: 5 incoming pedagogues (Italy, Romania, Czech Republic), who realized lectures, workshops and concerts; 9 staff mobility / training, of which one was incoming (Czech Republic). Compared to previous Erasmus projects, we are pleased that we have expanded the cooperation of England and Romania. We see our reserves in mobility / incoming students, which unfortunately we could not accept, although they expressed interest. The reason is, that we don’t have some specialities in classical music (e.g. cello and wind instruments), because we are a small school with short 5-years existence). We consider the realized number of mobilities for very satisfactory result, so far from our specific focus of artistic, musical programs we are in number of students and staff very small institution. In two bachelor and two master's programs we have only 30 students of ca. 10 nationalities. This low number is given by the artistic study programmes where never will be the mass production of artists. For students and teachers in artistic specialisations is extremely important exchange of artistic experience and musical creative activities. Musical language is international, and from this aspect there are no language barriers, as in other study programs, where the language is the main form of communication. We found out that a higher interest in the mobility traineeship, as in the mobility study is given by the fact that for students of musical orientations is very important the pedagogue of the main subject (instrument, resp. singing or conducting and composition). From this point of view the study in one or more semesters with another teacher may disrupt the concept of education in such specialization. The traineeship (two or more month) students can attend during the study period or out of the semester. Extremely effective and attractive were for them the traineeships at Janáček Academy of Music in Brno, Vienna and Prayner Konservatorium in Vienna, Unijazz in Prague and at West Kensington Music Team in London. Two graduates had the opportunity to give the lectures and to play in jazz music ensembles. The student of composition gained in England further experience in composing for various instrumental combinations and students of jazz in Vienna played in jazz ensemble together with students of different nationalities and also they gain experience in the field of theory and jazz arrangements. For our students the incoming teachers (artists and scientist) are also very attractive. These pedagogues are interested to come again to our institution. Their lectures and workshops are open to students of music school, conservatories and music universities in Slovakia, who came often in relatively high number and follow the lectures, workshops and concerts. All given lectures and concerts of these artists we have documented (video recordings, photographs) and published on our website: Erasmus, Concerts and Prominent personalities at our Academy, including in the annual report. On our website (section Erasmus) we continuously published statements about benefits of students mobility and also of teachers mobility. This information, we also publish in our magazine Ars pro toto and the invitation to the concerts in local newspaper. Admission to these concerts is free and open to the general public, which constitutes not only from domestic but also foreign audiences (Banská Štiavnica, registered in the list of UNESCO World Heritage, is one of the most frequently visited tourist centre in Slovakia). Realisation of staff mobility training allowed us to establish and develop cooperation with partner higher education institutions and also with institutions and companies where our students can attend the traineeships. This project significantly helped students who carried out the study or traineeship, to gain new knowledge and experiences for future professional development. Similarly, incoming and outgoing mobility – education contributed significantly to the development of cooperation with foreign countries, as well as to the exchange of experiences, pedagogical, artistic and scientific activities and markedly contributed to enriching curricula and artistic-scientific and educational activities. The long-term benefit is undeniably motivating teachers and students to participate in mobility under the Erasmus +, and thereby increase the personal and professional development. The demonstration of these are their positive and enthusiastic statements for mobility, and from our side we are doing everything we can to satisfy the greatest number of applicants for all types of mobility.
