Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project was based and set up with an ambition and desire of improving the competencies of Havering College teaching professionals across a wide range of disciplines over the academic year 2014-2015. This project also included members of support staff who were seeking to enrich their staff development and learn about new workplace structures, strategies and culture. Background: Throughout the past 4 years the International Office has been developing partnerships with a number of European institutions including MCAST, one of our partners in this project. The focus has been on establishing high quality and sustainable relationships, sharing the same vision and mission and ensuring this partnership amongst other newer partnerships is of meaningful cooperation and has sound processes in place to make the experience a success. Havering College has also been keen to explore and develop new partnerships with other organisations particularly in the fields of HE and expand it's reach and work in line with the Europe 2020 Strategy. Partnerships with Belgium, Germany and Italy have been sustainably developed through highly motivated staff seeking out best possible practices whilst being keen to share their own experiences. The main aims of the HE mobility were: 1. Supporting the internationalisation in the college with a view to enhance the international dimension of the education and training at Havering and improve teaching and learning 2. Fostering better cultural understanding and encouragement for learning a foreign language 3. Improving the quality of, and encouraging the creation of new ways of collaboration between the world of education and the world of business In regards to vocational staff, through the interaction with different educational systems and with their European colleagues, the teaching/training assignments exposed them to different ways and practices of teaching, different methodologies, industry standards, employer engagement and different legislation. The plan was for them to then use and implement this new found experience in their own teaching practice, enriching the programme of study that they teach. Number/type/profile of participants: In total there were 7 participants from Havering College. Three were staff mobility for teaching between programme companies and 4 were staff mobility for training between countries.
