Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The expected impact of DMU's participation in the Erasmus+ Programme on the modernisation of our institution is as follows: 1. Increasing attainment levels to provide the graduates and researchers for Europe?s needs. DMU has a sustained track record in widening participation and access to its courses. Equality, fairness and inclusion are central to the university?s mission. DMU is proud to work with students from disadvantaged backgrounds to raise their aspirations and engage them in internationalisation. 2. Improving the quality and relevance of higher education. Our commitment to ?Quality and Distinctiveness? means that we put these principles at the heart of everything we do. Our focus on graduate employability has led to a number of unique initiatives, and Erasmus+ traineeships is an important vehicle for engaging students with employers. 3. Strengthening quality through mobility and cross-border cooperation. ? A strategy to encourage students from UG to PG study ? Facilitating mobility for staff to participate in European exchanges with existing and new partners. 5. Improving governance and funding We believe that universities are a public good and we aim to carry out teaching and research that combines the highest academic quality with significance for wider society. It is anticipated that participation in the Erasmus+ Programme will continue to enhance research opportunities. In 2014-15, 29 students and staff have participated from a variety of subject areas, 15 in Erasmus+ study, 5 in Erasmus traineeships. The traineeships are in subject areas which are a particular strength for our university: Game Art, Fashion and Design. From a relatively small cohort, we have recruited six British Council Erasmus+ Ambassadors and an enthusiastic group who are setting up a student-led Erasmus Society, for on-campus European activities and formal and informal Erasmus+ promotion. Since 2014-15, #DMUglobal is a university-wide programme offering a mixture of short- and long-term mobility opportunities with an objective of engaging more than half of the student population in international experiences. This is acting as a powerful promotional vehicle which captures expressions of interest and signposts students between the different mobility options on offer.
