Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Background: This project was an integral part of the Institute of Education (IOE)'s Internationalisation Strategy, continuing the staff and student mobility activities sustained in previous years. Our student mobility numbers have remained small as we are a predominantly postgraduate institution and a large number of working part-time students unable to undertake the minimum period of mobility. However the recent growth in our undergraduate provision offers opportunities for expansion. In December 2014 the IOE merged with UCL and this was our last project as a standalone university with our own Erasmus+ Charter. Objectives: 1. Underpin our Internationalisation Strategy by expanding staff and student horizons and perspectives through targeted mobility opportunities. 2. Support heightened engagement in international research, consultancy and knowledge transfer. 3. Extend international research opportunities for students. 4. Develop staff and students? skills in international public engagement on research. Number and profile of participants: 29 staff and 3 students participated. Staff included a mixture of those who had previously undertaken mobility and those undertaking it for the first time. Description of activities undertaken: Staff mobility for training and teaching; and student mobility for traineeships and study. Results and impact attained, including longer-term benefits: - building of students' international and intercultural awareness; - underpining of strategic partnerships that have allowed sustained collaboration; - bringing mutual benefit to the project partners in terms of modernisation and internationalisation opportunities; - offering opportunities for early career academics to develop their research; - harnessing the respective skills and experience of both academic and professional staff.
