Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

In line with the goals set out in its Strategic Plan of being a leading International Technological University, the University of Strathclyde has continued in 2014-15 to promote an agenda for international exchange of students and staff with its agreed partners, with the strongest emphasis being on exchange within the European Union, with support from Erasmus+. With the aim of increasing over a sustained period to 2020 the number of exchange students with its European partners, the University is pleased to have sent out 305 of its students, across a wide range of disciplines, on Erasmus+ exchange in the course of the past year. Given its aim of promoting the widest possible representation of students in the activity, the University notes positively that more than 10% of the participants were recorded as being from disadvantaged backgrounds (the figure is probably higher in reality), and that 58% of students were female. In undertaking mobility for studies and traineeships, students have attained the goals of the University for them of gaining access to top expertise in other countries, to different cultures, to different ways of thinking, and to innovative thought processes ? all of high value to students of a range of backgrounds and origins based in the West of Scotland for their future careers. The University was also pleased with the growing number of outgoing staff (61% of whom were female) and the positive feedback on enhancement of skills, learning practices and teaching methods, together with overall job satisfaction and reinforcement of cooperation with partner institutions. Incoming students were integrated into the Departments of their study at the University, gained recognition in line with Erasmus+ principles for their work, and were assisted at all stages with what was needed to make their stay a valuable and enjoyable one at the University of Strathclyde and in the city of Glasgow.
