The University of Cantabria is deeply committed to increasing the number of international exchange students and staff as well as the quality of the mobility process as a whole. This goal could not be attained without the existence of this Erasmus grant project. The UC has been participating in the Erasmus programme since its outset and has developed a well-established and organised management system. The immediate background of the project was complicated, especially because of new financial guidelines developed at the time by the Spanish Ministry of Education, which differentiated the Erasmus students that were to be funded by EU and national funds according to criteria of language excellence. The actual number of participants has been 366 (326 for studies and 40 for internships), out of whom 240 students have received Erasmus funds. The profile of the participating students and staff has encompassed all disciplines offered by the UC, Engineering, Business and Economics being the most active disciplines. Other disciplines such as Education and Sciences (specially Physics) have significantly increased the number of mobile students. An important effort has been devoted to fostering mobilities for Master students who have been underrepresented and also, to increase the number of internships. It is worth to be mentioned the case of the Faculty of Education which has offered a number of slots in schools in Wales and Ireland which have been previously negotiated by the corresponding academic coordinators. The impact of the Erasmus programme is increasingly significant thanks to the effort and the initiatives carried out by the Vicerrectorate for Internationalisation and Cooperation and the IRO in order to increase the visibility of the project not only among the participants in the annual calls but also within the university community . The IRO also collaborates in the Strategic Plan of the university services with the aim of intensifying the knowledge of the programme by all central administrative departments and therefore, improve the coordination among university services. A communication plan has been developed in order to explain and present the programme at every stage of the student's life cycle, as early as from Secondary Education and at the admissions fair and sessions. The project has definitely helped to raise the awareness of an "Europen conscience" among our graduates and in order to materialise this visibility, a section entitled Impact and visibility of Erasmus + activities has been developed on the International Section of the University Web site: http://web.unican.es/unidades/oficina-relaciones-internacionales/impacto-y-difusion
