Higher education student and staff mobility project

Lum Jean Monnet University has promoted the new Eramsus+ programme among its students and staff members undertaking to respect the principles of non-discrimination, ensuring full recognition for satisfactorily completed activities, entering the completed activities in the final record of student achievements and charging no fees to incoming students for the various services offered. Since joining Erasmus in 2004, LUM Jean Monnet’s aim has always been to implement the international exchange mobilities. The Erasmus programme has offered a great opportunity to increase internationalization. Over the years, our institutional strategies have increased the number of mobilities due to the promotion of the programme in every way possible. The number of participants in the Erasmus programme went from 27 in 2013/14 to 41 in 2014/15, thus confirming the hoped-for increase. Furthermore, 2 professors have experienced a Teaching Mobility. The Erasmus programme promotion activities start some months before the announcement is published. The Vice-Rector for International Relations, the Coordinators of the faculties and the Erasmus Institutional Officer meet the students and inform them about the Programme. After the publication of the announcement, all applications received are registered. The students are examined on a specific date, according to the rules present in the announcement. Once the final merit ranking is published, the Erasmus office contacts the students going to a specific destination in order to produce all the required documents, including the Learning agreement. All the subjects indicated in the Learning agreement must be previously approved by both the LUM Professors and the Erasmus Coordinators. This means that all the completed activities will be recognized when the student completes his/her activities. Before departure, the students are provided with the “Erasmus student Handbook”, containing all the administrative procedures, cultural information, the Financial Agreement and the hard copies to hand in at the Erasmus Office/Mentor of the hosting Institution/Organization. Once abroad, the students who want to change one or more subjects must agree the change with our Professors and Erasmus Coordinators. Than the Change to the initial Learning Agreement is signed and sent by email. The grants are accredited when the office receives the bank data of the students. When students return, the completed activities are definitively approved by the Teaching Board and the marks are recorded in the University System. Similar services are offered to incoming students: a Transcript of records and a Certificate of attendance are given to the students as a final documentation to be handed in at his/her Erasmus Office. The internationalization strategies have produced encouraging results in terms of increase in the number of exchange mobilities. Incoming students have been offered quality didactic activities and a warm welcome, this meaning integration. It is expected their number will increase.
