Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Gdansk Music Academy collaborates closely with overseas music academies. It belongs to to the AEC (Association of European Conservatories, Higher Music Schools and Academies) and ABAM (Association of Baltic Academies of Music), which associates music higher education facilities in the Baltic Region countries. Currently, Gdansk Music Academy possesses over 70 bilateral agreements within the Erasmus+ KA103 program. The project realized within the Erasmus+ program covered the period from 1.06.2014 to 31.05.2016. During that time Gdansk Music Academy implemented all four types of mobility:student mobility for studies, student mobility for placements, staff mobility for teaching assignments and finally staff mobility for training. Project quality goals contained in the financial agreement with NA, the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), Erasmus Policy Statement (EPS) and 2013-2020 Gdansk Music Academy Development Strategy were fully reached. The activity of the Academy Coordinator for Erasmus, International Office employee and Academy Faculties' authorities focused on realizing every possible mobility according to the project principles. Apart from standard activity connected with formal and administrative organization of mobility, individual approach towards participants was adopted in order to enable them to realize the mobility in accordance with their expectations. Quantity goals contained in the agreement with NA were fully met, Gdansk Academy realized 36 mobilities agreed upon with NA, which constitutes a 30 % increase in comparison with the previous year. 15 students went to study abroad, 5 students joined trainships overseas, 14 academic teachers went for teaching assignments abroad and 2 employees went for overseas trainings. As far as students are concerned, three times more women than men went to study abroad. Regarding staff mobility, there was slightly more men than women departing. The majority of students went to study in Germany, while most academic teachers conducted classes in Italy. The two countries mentioned above are among the most significant music centers in Europe, which testifies to a conscious and well-judged choice of mobility destination on the part of participants. Gdansk Music Academy's goal for the following years is realizing a growing number of mobilities and strengthening the collaboration with foreign partners. Activities undertaken during the agreement realization resulted from the project's objectives. Predominantly, the activities concerned project management in the field of participant mobility. The most important management elements were: dissemination of information (about recruitment, acceptance process etc.), support in mobility preparation (study program agreement preparation, safety concerns, etc.), support for participants during and after realizing mobility. Also, Gdansk Music Academy offered language support for incoming students by organizing Polish language courses during their stay. The project's impact is most visible in relation to mobility participants, both Academy students and staff. Through participating in the project, they have gained invaluable experience and broadened their perspectives, which has directly translated into their professional development. Mobilities have enabled the participants to gain numerous competences, not only as far as language and expertise are concerned, but also soft competences, such as developing interpersonal skills, coping in new environments and strengthening their European identity. The project's impact goes far beyond influencing its direct participants, it affects the whole Academy as well as institutions and people outside it. Project participants have been disseminating their newly acquired knowledge among individuals who have not had a chance to take part in the project, sharing ideas during meetings and artistic events. Also, the Academy has been organizing concerts, very popular among Tricity audiences, during which foreign students and teachers have been able to perform. Mobility realization during the project has enhanced Gdansk Music Academy's prestige and positive image both domestically and internationally, which fits in with the Academy's overall strategy of strenthening its position through participation in international endeavors. Taking part in Erasmus/Erasmus+ project by Gdansk Music Academy constitutes a consistent effort to realize this strategic goal. Moreover, mobility realization has become the Academy's long-term advantage by contributing to the development of student education due to the use of knowledge and skills gained overseas by teachers who have participated in the project. Disseminating information about the program outcomes translates into a constant increase in the number of candidates, both students and employees, interested in the project participation.
