Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

As a young institution (founded in 2009), Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences seeks to enable its students to spend an extended period abroad. That is why all Bachelor's degree programmes comprise a one-semester mobility window, the so-called Praxis-/Auslandssemester (Practical Semester/Semester Abroad). The Erasmus programme is an additional contributor to this goal. The students who were supported through the Erasmus programme consistently assessed their study-abroad periods as enriching when they returned to our university. It is safe to conclude that these mobility experiences play an important part in achieving our overarching goal, which is to make it possible for the students to receive a complete education; complete in the sense that it goes beyond mere technical competences. By relating their experiences to their younger peers, these returning students foster an interest in study-abroad periods and strengthen our university partnerships. Our university's proportion of students with an immigration background is above average. That is why it is a part of our strategy to put a focus on their families' home countries when establishing new partnership agreements. Against this backdrop, it is noteworthy that our students make particular good use of the opportunity to study or complete an internship in Turkey. For those among our students who have a German-Turkish background, this is an opportunity to become acquainted with their ancestors' home country and culture.
