Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

IPL, a non-profit organization, was created in 1992. IPL coordinates common projects for 4 partner Institutions of higher education in Applied Sciences (CPE, ECAM, ISARA and ITECH), in the areas such as: pedagogy, innovation/entrepreneurship, human training, international and organizational. Its expertise is project management: implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project as well as its administrative and financial management. The projects that IPL deals with are funded by the French government (Rhône-Alpes Council) or by the EU, and self-financed by the schools themselves. IPL works with the 4 Institutions during regular meetings (every 2 months). The 4 international leaders from each Institution, meet at IPL and discuss the progress of each project. IPL has coordinated and managed scholarships for students to go abroad on internships since its creation, including European scholarships since 2001 (Leonardo programme) and when the 2e2f French Agency suggested the creation of consortium, the 4 schools asked IPL to be part of it. IPL applied and has been granted the right to be a consortium since the beginning of the program and it is still active today. The Erasmus+ programme extends the scope of the consortium to academic scholarships (and not only for internships) for 2 of the 4 Institutions: ECAM and ITECH. The overall objective of the consortium is to pool the scholarships in order to optimize their use among the 4 Institutions. It improves the quality of the services offered to students thanks to a continued cooperation between the 4 institutions, a dialogue and consultation on the didactic and logistical preparation procedures, as well as on the monitoring and evaluation of the European internships and the academic periods spent at European universities. The consortium also helps to increase the number of outgoing students for an internship in European companies or semesters of academic exchange as well as the number of teaching supervisors to oversee the work or academic experience abroad, and the number of European partner companies and universities. And finally, the consortium also helps reduce the administrative workload done by the Institutions: project development, administrative and financial follow-up. The consortium stimulates the partner institutions to achieve higher quality in the preparation, follow up and evaluation of the experiences of the students abroad. Each partner institution is in charge of the relationships with companies in its sectors of activities and with partner universities, this is done through: business days, seminars, intercultural days, newsletter, educational operations based on industrial applications, visits abroad.... During these events, each school is able to communicate to its students about what type of internship the companies can offer or what curriculum the universities may propose. The school presents the educational objectives, durations, tasks, etc., that can be proposed to the students corresponding to their skills, level of studies, for each type of internship or study semester. With this financial contract we have been able to help 175 students (157 for internships and 18 for study periods). For the most part, the internships were a part of the students’ curriculum, while others were optional. An example of the latter is, a gap year in line with the student’s professional objectives and authorized by the school, and it resulted in ECTS credits or a mention in the diploma supplement. 43% of students who received a scholarship were in the first or second year of their program, 32% in a gap year and 25% in the last year (end of studies internship); 56% where women and 44% men. The business sectors represented are those of the 4 schools of the consortium: 30% in chemistry (mainly from CPE), 25% in agriculture, agri-food, environment (ISARA), 20% in General engineering (ECAM), 10% in computer sciences (CPE), 12% in the textile, leather or wood industries and 3% in the electronic sector. The subjects of the courses are previously accepted by the program coordinators and all in relation to the curriculum followed by students. In the end, students have strengthened their abilities and skills in order to further improve their employability: internships and academic semesters abroad represent the most direct way to understand the cultural, economic and social specificities of foreign countries, get acquainted with other methods and rhythms of work, strengthens one’s personality (initiative, autonomy, sense of responsibility, open-mindedness, adaptability and flexibility...), perfect one’s foreign language skills to work in foreign companies, and acquire knowledge of the concept of the European market.
