Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Using the Erasmus+ fundings Narvik University College (NUC) was able to increase the numbers of mobilities. During the first programme period we had participants in all categories of mobility which we find rewarding, although the numbers were lower than the goals we initially set. Internationalization and mobility were central to Narvik University College's strategy. We wanted growth of both the institution and the region by the development of strategic alliances in Europe and beyond. Participants in the mobilities were a mix of both students, academics and administrative staff. We also had a mix of gender, even though we see that the females were more likely to do a mobility period. With the small numbers of participants, the statistics can quickly change though and we expect a change in the gender statistics for the next programme period. Our students are more aware now about the possibility of an exchange during their studies and we encourage students to go abroad. Still we find that with the studies we offer at NUC it is often challenging to find appropriate courses abroad, as the studies are very regulated by the Norwegian government. It was our aim to set up fixed exchange agreements for all our programmes and cycles but this work has not been completed yet but the work will continue to move forward. During the programme period, NUC merged with Harstad University College and UiT the Arctic University of Norway. The work load connected to the merger has taken its toll on the internationalization work. Both administrative and academic staff have been very occupied with the merger and we therefore see a set-back from the plan we originally had. UiT the Arctic University of Norway also emphasize the importance of internationalization and we see that many of the aims NUC set, matches aims set by UiT. We are therefore confident that the participation in Erasmus+ will continue for our Campus in the future and we expect the number of participants to grow.
