Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

One of the main goals of School Centre Srečko Kosovel, Higher Vocational College, Photography and Material Design is to enable suitable training abroad to as many students and lecturers as possible. Thus they acquire study-/job-related knowledge, competences, skills and experience in other European colleges, institutions and businesses. We are convinced that such experience contributes to their better labour market competitiveness and competences, both abroad and at home. Vital parts of our higher educational programme are practical training and competent knowledge. It is remarkable how the motivation increases with students who experience international mobility. Some of them are barely aware of it immediately after the mobility. It becomes evident after some time that the attitude to work changes, they become more productive, and last but not least, they try to finish their education. The percentage of those who graduate is quite low at our school. An interesting fact is that the percentage of graduates with international exchange experience increases drastically. 40% of graduates had with international mobility in 2014, 60% in 2015, 67% in 2016. Our school is small and the programmes very specific, which makes it more difficult to find suitable partners and sign the agreement. The main problem is that there are not many 2-year higher schools. This has to be considered when signing an agreement. If an agreement is signed, we try to accomplish the activities and upgrade the partnership. There are three inter-institutional Erasmus+ agreements. As part of the two-year project, 10 students and 4 employees participated in training abroad. One student took part in a 9-month study mobility, while the other students carried out out practical training abroad. The employees carried out training abroad. - Escuela de Arte de Oviedo: we signed the agreement with the school in Oviedo in the period of LLP, the agreement was renewed for Erasmus+ programme. Together we implemented Erasmus intensive programme, several mobilities of lecturers and student mobilities. Our students appreciate the mobility in Oviedo as they get to know the lecturers and their teaching methods. One of our students chose a 9-month study mobility there because the programme focuses on a very individual approach to developing students’ competences. - IPCA Polytechnic of Cavado and Ave: at the beginning of a new project period a new contract was signed with IPCA Polytechnic from Barcelos, Portugal. The project partners we have worked with from the period of LLP helped us get in touch with IPCA. The cooperation began in the academic year 2014-15. First a student attended additional practical training, in spring three employees (director, Erasmus coordinator and lecturer of Technical terminology in English) took part in 'Staff week'. The aim of which was to get an insight into organising international activities and international cooperation. Afterwards four students (both programmes – Photography and Material Design) carried out practical training. We continue our successful cooperation even in Erasmus+ programme. We are discussing further cooperation and the basis of a joint programme which would integrate photography and design. We are also developing ideas of joint intensive programmes. One of the students who carried out practical training there graduated with a product made during the training. She made ‘Erasmus photo journal, students’ guide to Portugal. It is suitable for all foreign students who come to IPCA. IPCA and our school are both impressed with the product. At our school Erasmus photo journal will be used to prepare our students for their mobility to Portugal. - Escuela de arte y superior de diseno Gran Canaria: the inter-institutional agreement was signed in October 2015. Our student who was there for practical training (during the period of LLP) provided the contacts. The planned mobilities have not been carried out yet due to the lower funds assigned in the following calls. - BAS Bergen: one of our lecturers took part in training at the faculty of architecture in Bergen. One of the aims of the mobility was signing an agreement. The agreement was not signed as the two programmes differ too much. Both schools welcome other types of cooperation. In addition to the mobilities mentioned above four practical training mobilities were carried out: in Romania, Portugal and Norway. New applications enable constant monitoring of our students abroad as well as communication with partners. In addition to that, dissemination can be efficient. As more and more student mobilities are related to their diploma works, a good use of their results is possible after the end of the project.
