Higher education student and staff mobility project

The University of the French West Indies and Guiana (UAG), located in three French regions of America (Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guiana), provides superior training young of 3 academies. Due to their geographical location and their institutional status, the French Overseas Regions have privileged relationship with both Caribbean countries, the countries of North America and Latin America and with the countries of the European Union. The multi territorial dimension of the UAG, the specificity of its position as a French university ensuring its teaching and research missions in the Caribbean context, gives relationships with partner universities and student exchanges, teachers and staff, an importance of first order. The concepts of relationships and exchange are all the more essential that the UAG is the only higher education institution of FDA (French Department of America) and is facing problems related to island status (for Guadeloupe and Martinique). Especially the ERASMUS program perfectly meets this need for our university, to attract European students on its campuses, and provides an effective framework for the organization of cooperation with universities of Europe. Students from partner universities may well find national training programs, in a regional context, different from the rest of the French territory, characterized by its Creole-speaking among other dimension. The tropical environment is also an attraction, especially in the field of earth sciences, biology and geography. At the same time, it is equally essential that students of the Antilles and Guiana could perform study abroad periods in European universities, allowing them to experience other teaching practices, to exchange with teachers and students of the host universities and beyond, to have an experience of living and working in a European context. It's the same for our teachers and administrative staff for whom educational mobility or training are real opportunities of exchanges with foreign colleagues, and appropriation of good practices. UAG is a quite young university, and the experience it can acquire from oldest universities, constitutes a real factor for progress. To enable students to integrate into the labor market after their university studies, UAG has implemented a policy of partnership with the business world, resulting notably by the creation of University / Firms foundations. Degrees in phase with the local economic environment are now available. The establishment of the Professional Bachelor in Hotel and Tourism, the Applied Foreign Languages Bachelor and the Master of Economy, specialty International Business, illustrates our commitment to effectively meet the needs of our territories, while taking into account the dimension "international relations "that characterizes the current policies of economic development in these regions. As such, opportunities for ERASMUS internships in countries of the European Union, are an additional asset for our students, provided by UE financing but also by the offers proposed to them. This academic year 2014 2015 UAG was able to finance through the ERASMUS program 13 abroad mobilities for studies and 3 internship mobility in Europe. A majority of students came from Literature, Foreign Languages departments for studies mobility. But 3 of them came from the Legal Sciences faculty. Students who received the internship mobility grants came from the Biology sector for 2 of them and Economic and Management for the 3rd. 4 teachers have benefited from ERASMUS mobility grants. These teachers are engaged in the following specialties: Mathematics, Biology, Foreign Languages and Civilizations, French foreign language. 4 administrative staff have received training mobility grants. These staff operating in the following services: International Relations Office, Home Service of a faculty, manager of Guadeloupe campuses and IT department. Generally speaking the beneficiaries enjoyed their mobility abroad experience and felt that it had largely met their expectations. Therefore, the expected impact has been achieved both for students, teachers and administrative staff.
