Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Since 1957 ISIT has been training multilingual and intercultural experts and preparing them to work within international companies and organizations. With 3 or 4 working languages, ISIT students go on to work as translators, conference interpreters, lawyer linguists, and company managers in prestigious professional settings throughout the world. ISIT provides schooling for 900 students each year. Within a 5-year study program, students are required to spend time abroad in countries where their working languages are spoken: either an academic mobility in 2nd and 3rd year or a professional mobility during their 3rd, 4th or 5th year of training. In 2014-2015, this project was a total success since we have reached and exceeded our objectives. However, with global mobility being mandatory and given the constant increase in the number student applications for Europe-based mobility, we have not been able to meet every demand. For the first time this year, several students embarking on European internships abroad programmes have not been able to benefit from Erasmus grants, even for long-term stays abroad. In order to ensure that scholarships are fairly granted, we have set up a steering committee. To keep up with the increasing incoming and outgoing student mobility, ISIT has set up numerous initiatives such as freshers’ week, inter-student patronage, student associations, cross-cultural workgroups, and even an “intercultural dialogue” module which partners ISIT students with foreign students. The school’s International Relations Office, the Head of Studies and the language department heads do their best to help outgoing students with choosing the appropriate destination and undertaking the administrative procedures, thanks to regular meetings and individual appointments. Regarding support for incoming students, a new initiative has been launched on our campus. The International Relations Office offers to put them in touch with our partners to find accommodation and the language department heads also provide them with a pedagogical and technical follow-up. ISIT students have a remarkable language proficiency in 3 or 4 languages: Spanish, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, and any other language, while French and English are mandatory. All students must be fluent in those languages in order to pass the entrance examination. Thus, from a pedagogical perspective, the online courses of the OLS platform website had a less than anticipated use, given the language skills of our students. Without exception, every Erasmus mobility at ISIT benefits from academic acknowledgement and grants the appropriate number of ECTS. Our services and teachers/researchers also welcome foreign professors within a mobility programme. This project is of the utmost importance for the strategy of our school which trains future interpreters, translators and company managers.
