Higher education student and staff mobility project

This projects belongs to the field of Civil Works and Building. Two students of Escola del Treball Vocational Training School in Barcelona, have done 350 hours of training at the architect’s office of Giovanni Battista and Joan Oliva, in Alghero, province of Sassari, on the Italian isle of Sirdinia. It is a middle-sized Enterprise of less tan 50 workers. The person in charge of supervising the training was Mr. Joan Oliva, who signed, in the name of the collaborating Enterprise, the learning agreement for these students with Escola de Treball of Barcelona. This agreement states the planninf of the training activities for the period. The enterprise’s architects offer reports and studies related to drafting, architecture or engineering, real estate development companies, companies providing technical services and consultancy, construction, concession and operating companies. In any case, the activities they perform have a significant incidence on the land, given their exploitation of natural resources, and Public Administrations. Their work is regulated by law. During their training period the two students have established real contact with the different profile of professionals who participate in Civil Works such as the Civil works draughtsperson, the urban services draughtsperson, the assistant topographical surveyor, the land surveying expert, the construction surveying expert, the construction work setting out expert, the topography draughtsperson, the assistant to technical office manager, the scheduler assistant, the assistant to cost control technician, the documentation control technician, the cConstruction model-maker, the fluids distribution systems and networks design draughtsperson. The training activities agreed between the two parties have been related in the first place to the definition and develpment of urban projects. The students have made construction representations, making freehand drawings of plans and construction details and drafted graphical documentation of construction projects, drawing plans through computer assisted design programs. Secondly, related to the development of Linear Projects, planning activities and collecting the necessary information. Thirdly, they have written documents of linear projects, preparing reports, supplements, measurements, budgets, tender specifications and other required studies. They have learned to manage the documentation of linear projects, reproducing, filing and preparing reports, plans, tender specifications and estimates and other required studies to be distributed. Finally, they have devoted time to the the use of computer applications and phototypesetting techniques, and made scale models for the study of construction projects, applying basic techniques of model building. They have managed graphical documentation of construction projects, reproducing, organising and filing plans either in paper or electronic format. They have taken measurements, draws up budgets and established cost control processes using specific computer tools. All in all it has been a very positive experience. The learning objective agreed upon have been accomplished and the students have had the opportunity to get to know on the spot the functioning of an Enterprise of the field to which their vocational training belongs. They have been able to put into practice the theorical knowledge acquired in the different profesional modules at school and perfected the general competence foreseen in the description of the Diploma of Higher Technician in Civil Works Projects, which entails: preparing the technical documentation for civil works and land use planning projects, carrying out surveys and construction work setting out processes and managing the documentation control for its execution, complying with the current legislation and the established quality, safety and environmental condition.
