Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Ecole Boulle has a long tradition of collaboration and cooperation with organisations and institutions worldwide, in Europe and also in Quebec, Asia, China, Japan, the Maghreb and Africa. Through our membership of CUMULUS, the International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media, Ecole Boulle has forged special links with institutions, many of which are involved in the Erasmus+ programme. This network enables us to select future partners on the basis of common goals, and to build relationships of trust, facilitating communication and exchange. Our Erasmus+ higher education mobility programme fits into the framework of this policy of opening up to the international perspective. Our international relations activities, which include mobillity for study purposes, internships and training, as well as hosting foreign teachers and students, have multiple objectives : - to increase the level of qualifications of our students and teachers in Ecole Boulle’s target areas of design and applied arts and crafts ; - to improve our students’ integration into the world of work, and their employability on an increasingly international job market ; - to integrate the values of different cultures in order to eradicate prejudice and encourage tolerance and respect ; - to consolidate the place of foreign languages at Ecole Boulle, as regards both students and staff, through activities in real-life situations abroad. Promoting and implementing mobility has been our priority, and this has enabled 28 students and members of staff to take part in study periods, internships and training programmes. 16 students have carried out internships of at least 2 or 3 months, receiving training in domains corresponding to their cursus and diploma. In collaboration with the international relations coordinator, and with the support of the school’s principal and vice principals, the staff has been most active in encouraging their students to carry out one of their internships abroad. Students who have been away on mobility studies or internships have returned with increased confidence in their own potential, a network of social and professional relations, and in some cases with the promise of a future job, or the intention of continuing their studies abroad. Obviously the language immersion has enabled our students to improve their linguistic skills, most often in English, a sine qua non in today’s professional world. In response to Ecole Boulle’s policy of development and reinforcement of foreign languages, 3 applied arts teachers from our Space Design department followed an in-depth language course in London for one week. The aim was to improve dialogue with the numerous exchange and other international students hosted by this section every year, to enable them to teach in English, and also to facilitate the frequent workshops organized by Ecole Boulle in partnership with foreign schools. The presence of international mobility students and teachers, and their fresh take on our teaching and learning methods, has been particularly enriching for the school. The Erasmus+ programme allows Ecole Boulle to implement our policy of international development in order to achieve a greater knowledge of trends in design and applied arts and crafts worldwide, to take part in stimulating exchanges and to discover innovative practices, thus enabling our students and teachers to be more creative and competitive actors not just on a national level, but also on the international stage.
